Kawempe took the lead in the 18th minute when Nassazi lashed onto a long ball from Hadijja Nandago to slot past onrushing goalkeeper Gloria Namakula.

Allen Nassazi got injured in the process of scoring.

Four minutes later, Kawempe had the chance to double the lead but Margaret Kunihira who had been fouled in the area failed to convert from the spot.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies vs Kampala Queens – Midday

Games will be live on UBC TV

Women’s Football in Uganda will return for the first time after a year of no action due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The 2019/20 season was cancelled when the Government put a halt on sports activities in the country.

After 13 months of no action, the 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League will kick-start the resumption of Women’s Football with the season getting underway on Monday, 19th April at the FUFA Technical Centre.

The prevailing circumstances in regard to COVID-19 brought about changes in the playing format with the ten teams divided into two groups of five and all games played at one venue (FUFA Technical Centre).

Group 1 that has Kawempe Muslim Ladies, Uganda Martyrs High School WFC, Kampala Queens, Tooro Queens and Makerere University WFC will get the new season underway.

FUFA in partnership with National Broadcaster, UBC will televise the games live, the first of its kind in Women’s football in Uganda.

The new season will start with Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga taking on Makerere University (SHE MAK) while Kampala Queens will face record Champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies.

Uganda Martyrs High School coach Rogers Nkugwa is optimistic that his team will start on a positive note.

‘The players are ready and we have prepared them very well. Our target is to start with victory and that will give us momentum ahead of the next games.’ He said.

His counterpart, Fred Ndawula of Makerere University equally believes the result from the first game is important and wants hopes his charges can fight for a good outcome.

‘The first game in such a format is important. We want to start on a high and that can be a springboard to even better performances.’

Kawempe Muslim will be without head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi who is part of the National Teams scouting group and his assistant, Moses Nkata will be in the dugout.

Nkata is unfazed with the absence of his master and insists there will not be any effect.

‘We have been together for a long time with him (Kiyingi) and the great understanding we have over the years definitely makes us more of the same. Therefore, I’m sure the players will go out to make sure the team wins,’ Nkata stated.

Kampala Queens on the other hand also made changes in the technical team with Isma Mukiibi replacing Faridah Bulega.

Mukiibi will have the task of guiding the team to their first silverware but insists he will take one game at a time.

‘The new format is tricky and therefore we must think of one game at a time. The target is to the Championship playoffs first before we can think of the title.’

The top two teams in each group will advance to the Championship playoffs while the bottom placed teams after the groups stage will also be subjected to a playoff to determine the team that will be relegated.

Let us Celebrate Uganda’s greatest goalkeeper ever Denis Onyango

Another icon of Ugandan football draws the curtains to such an illustrious career with the Uganda Cranes.

Denis Masinde Onyango has been the best goalkeeper I have watched in the World. For those who follow, it is not the first time I am saying this.
We have always been sure that there is Denis to carry the team when it needed the goalkeeper.

He has been a great athlete, disciplined sportsman and patriotic footballer.
He has taken choice to retire and we should celebrate him for the hard decision. If you asked me, he is one of those few players that should have stayed forever but we have to accept that players come and go. It is just human.
Denis wanted to announce his retirement in Malawi immediately after the game but was advised to hold on for a better timing. There was always not going to be the right timing for Denis to retire.
FUFA took a decision to organize testimonial matches for national team players who retire after 8 years of service or those that have put indelible marks to the team as decided by the FUFA Executive.

Definitely Onyango will have the option to take the testimonial match at the right timing.

I wish Denis the best of the rest his athletic football career and hope the game retains him to serve it in different capacities.

FUFA Polls: Magogo declares intentions to contest

Incumbent FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo has on Tuesday declared intentions to contest as head of the football governing body in Uganda.

Mr. Magogo revealed this during the Quarterly FUFA-Media engagement held at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga, Kampala.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo addressing the media at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga.

He started by indicating that the current term will come to an end in August this year and thereafter confirmed his intention to seek for a third stint.

‘FUFA elections have begun and my term as the President of the Federation comes to an end on the 31st of August 2021. I am going to stand for another term.  I told you when the right moment comes, I will announce and this is the time to declare,’ he revealed.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo stressing a point.

Having assumed power in 2013, the incumbent President believes he has the experience and ideas to take the game to another level given the added benefit of being a Member of Parliament.

Magogo was elected MP for Budiope East in January to the 11th Parliament.

‘I believe we have the ideas and experience. Going to Parliament helps football because there are certain things that we can only get in Parliament. We have done our first and second phase and now we want to go the third phase which is going to the 2026 FIFA World Cup’ said Magogo.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo listening during the Quarterly media engagement.

The President stated that football should be safeguarded amidst the political tensions and promised a free and fair election process.

‘There are going to be very many political emotions, let us be aware of them and remain careful that football must continue to exist. Anybody who uses the politics to solve or to undermine football on the pitch, we shall stand up to them. There is a habit of politicians wanting to attract football into the politics. We shall come up and apply the rules and regulations irrespective of your political ambitions. We will organize free and fair elections and ensure that the rules are followed as they are.’

From Left to Right: FUFA 1st Vice President, Justus Mugisha, FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo and FUFA Deputy CEO-Football, Decolas Kiiza.

He emphasized that the existing procedures will be followed to make sure the process is smooth and devoid of blemish right from the District to National level.

‘There is a process. There are procedures and these have been in existence for the last ten years. Let us follow the rules and condemn those who do nor follow them. The process has already started, from the Districts to Regional and then National level. If you think you want to become FUFA President, come and stand, add value, do not distort what has been achieved.  Nobody is going to be victimised for intentions to stand’ He stated.

Under the reign of Mr. Magogo as President, FUFA has registered several success stories in different areas such as Governance, football development, equipment & infrastructure, National & Representative teams, Competitions, Marketing & Communications, Finance & Administration plus Membership.
