    FUFA Women Elite League: 2017/18 season; 2nd round fixtures out

    The FUFA Competitions Department has released the fixtures for the 2nd round of the FUFA Women Elite League 2017/18 season.

    The fixtures indicate a kickoff of 10th February with Defending champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies in action against Mutesa Royal University Women FC.

    Olila Women who are enjoying 100%  perfect start to the 2017/18 season will play away to Eastern Heroes.

    FUFA has already revealed that there is  Prize money worth 30M up for grabs for the FUFA Women Elite League 2017/2018 season,

    FUFA Competitions: Prize Monies revealed for 2017/2018 Season

    The FUFA Emergency Committee that sat on Friday morning 26th January, 2018 at FUFA House in Mengo to discuss adjustments on FUFA budgets has passed key financial decisions with effect from 1st January.
    Decisions on key areas will be implemented with immediate effect but here are highlights in the areas of club football and refereeing for 2017/2018 season where prize monies have either been introduced or improved;
    The prize monies for FUFA Competitions have increased from UGX 20M to UGX 426M.
    Prize Monies announced for FUFA’s 10 Competitions
    Champions, Cup Winners and rankings of other teams in the FUFA Competitions will be rewarded with cash prizes at the end of each football season. The figures as broken down apply to the 2017/2018 season;

    FUFA has set aside prize monies worth UGX 426 M for 10 Competitions in the 2017/2018 season.

    Breakdown-Cash Prizes in the Uganda Premier League

    The breakdown of the Cash prize Money in the Uganda Premier League. The champion team will get UGX 60M. FUFA has announced a cash prize package of 128M for the 16 clubs in the top flight for the 2017/2018 season
    UGX 7.5M has been put aside as cash prize money for the FUFA U18 Juniors League starting this season 2017/2018

    Payment for Referees’ fees in Regional Leagues
    FUFA has also taken a giant step and will now pay the close to 200 referees’ match fees who officiate in the 8 Regional leagues (Northern, West Nile, North East, Western, Buganda, Kampala, Kitara and Eastern).
    It should be noted that FUFA has been meeting the referees’ match day costs in the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, FUFA Juniors League, Uganda Cup, FUFA Women Elite League and FUFA Women’s Cup.

Moses Magogo, Justus Mugisha (1st FUFA Vice President), Darius Mugoye (2nd Vice President), Rasoul Ariga (Chairman FUFA Finance Committee), Chris Kalibala (Executive Member), Rogers Byamukama (Executive Member), Hamid Juma (Executive Member), Humphrey Mandu (FUFA Deputy CEO) and George Bakiwanya (FUFA Finance Assistant).

    Club Football: Sports Broadcasting acquires rights to air UPL, FUFA Big League and Uganda Cup

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has partnered with Sports Broadcasting as they announced the acquisition of the major commercial and media rights for the Uganda Premier League (UPL), FUFA Big League and the FUFA Uganda Cup.

    The four year deal starts from 1st June 2018 ending 31st July 2022 valued at US $ 3 million.

    The announcement was made on Thursday, 25th January 2018 at Achwa Hall, Serena International Hotel, Kampala.

    The FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo graced the momentous occasion alongside the chief guest Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi (State Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities).

    Eng. Magogo was also flanked by the Director of the Sports Broadcasting Brutus Kagingo, Dr Naamara Warren (Chairman, Sports Broadcasting), Dennis Mbidde (Managing Director, Sports Broadcasting), Chairman FUFA Super League (Arinaitwe Rugyendo), Zubair Ggaliwango (National Council of Sports), UPL board members, FUFA Executive Committee member Rogers Byamukama and FUFA Staff.

    This is an important milestone in the history of Ugandan football that will see Ugandans enjoying both live games of the 1st and 2nd Division Leagues not forgetting the Ugandan Cup.

    Ugandans can look forward to watching all the 240 games of the Uganda Premier league from the comfort of their homes, work places and hangouts.

    It is anticipated that in the years to come, this innovation will change the way Ugandans view and consume not just football but Ugandan Sport in general.

    Sports Broadcasting is enthusiastic about reaching this agreement with FUFA and UPL because it aligns with the company strategy to develop and share local sports content, build football awareness and support for Ugandan sport in medium term, and East African sports in the long term.

    Further details about the broadcasting medium and how to access Ugandan football games in the UPL, FUFA Big League and Uganda Cup will be announced in the near future.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) under the competitions department held the draws for the 44th edition of the Uganda Cup for the round of 64 stage.

    The draws were conducted on Thursday, 11th January 2018 at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

    FUFA Acting Competitions Director Hajjati Aisha Nalule supervised the whole exercise, flanked by the FUFA Deputy CEO Humphrey Mandu, Hamza Nsereko (FUFA Communications member) and Sarah Birungi, a member of the FUFA Competitions department.

    The matches will be played starting on the weekend of 20th January 2018.

    The finals will be held towards the last weekend of June 2018 in Kumi district.

    Like it has been conducted during the previous editions, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cause attached to the Uganda Cup will still take effect in Kumi and the surrounding areas.

    Capacity Building: FUFA Conducts refresher Connect Workshop for top flight clubs and Regional associations CEO’s

    FUFA has organized a two day refresher connect workshop for Azam Uganda Premier League clubs and Regional Football Associations Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) at FUFA House, Mengo.
    The training workshop which is slated for Wednesday 9th to Thursday 10th January 2018 is designed to refresh and learn more about the dos and don’ts of the player transfer system in order to enhance the smooth process of transferring players during the secondary registration period.

    During the workshop, the acting Competitions Director Hajjat Aisha Nalule also addressed  the participants on the FUFA Player status and transfer regulations.
    ‘The FUFA connect project is a FIFA initiative to facilitate player transfer using mordern technology.As FUFA we have to implement it by facilitating stake holders on how to conduct it’ noted Hajjat Nalule.

    She added that the earlier workshops were conducted but there is need to conduct refresher workshops due to the advances in technology everyday.
    The workshop was organized and facilitated  by the FUFA Competitions Department headed by Hajjat Aisha Nalule with the help of other departments staff Phoebe Kutamba, Sarah Birungi and Emmanuel Kazora.
    Another workshop will be held on Wednesday 10th January 2017 at FUFA House, Mengo for the FUFA Big League Club CEOs.

    Only BUL and Masavu Football Clubs managed to win in the five games of match day 14 during the Azam Uganda Premier League matches played on Tuesday.

    Jinja based club BUL smiled to a 2-0 victory against Soana at the Kakindu Stadium.

    The other win was registered in Entebbe as nleague debutants Masavu pipped Onduparakaa 2-1 at the Fisheries Training Institute play ground in Bugonga.

    Abraham Ndugwa and Ddumba Sadala were on the mark for Masavu. Samon Ceaser Okhuti scored a late kick from the penalty mark as consolation.

    Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and new comers Mbarara City played to a one all draw at Mandela National Stadium.

    South Sudanese import Mawekuth Wol scored the opener for the visitors before Dennis Kamanzi found the equalizer.

    Bright Stars and Police shared the spoils in the goal-less stalemate at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe.

    Solomon Walusimbi headed his 4th goal of the season when home side Maroons rallied from a goal down to hold visiting UPDF.

    Match day 14 returns on Wednesday with three games in Masaka, Lugogo and Wankulukuku.

    Express hosts Vipers at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, Champions KCCA is home to Kirinya Jinja S.S and table leaders Sports Club Villa Jogoo is home to Proline in Masaka.

    Ikwaput scores 5 goals for Olila against Makerere

    The shining star of North East Region women football Ikwaput Fazilah kicked off the new season in style by scoring 5 goals in Olila’s 6-0 victory over Makerere’s She MAK in the FUFA women Elite League.

    Norah Alupo scored the other goal for the home side.

    Ikwaput who was the MVP of the 2016/17 season when she took her team Olila High School to the play offs for the first time was on fire on Sunday afternoon in Soroti.

    Her team had not kicked a ball since the start of the league as there would be opening fixture against Eastern Heroes wasn’t played because their opponents never showed up on the day for the fixture.

    Ikwaput, who has also been nominated for the Airtel FUFA Female player of the year award, will lead her team against UCU Lady Cardinals in Mukono for another league fixture on Saturday 18th November.

    That match will also have two nominees for the MVP award Hasifah Nassuuna (UCU Lady Cardinals) and Vanessa Karungi (Olila High School).

    Given the continuous successes registered at Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), more and more partners and sponsors continue to get inclined to the beautiful game at lightening pace.

    Three big sponsorships have been successfully lured and announced in a space of one week.

    From Uganda Cranes Shs 10 Billion (for 4 years) at the start of the week on Monday, Vipers’ Shs 300M (2 years) on Wednesday to Isabeti Beach Soccer Football Club’s Shs 10M (1 year) on Saturday, the script spells it all in bold.

    Isabeti Beach Soccer Club’s sponsorship came from Home & Away Furniture World, Entebbe and Come Again Real Estate.

    The sponsorship was officially unveiled on Saturday the firm’s main head quarters located at Abayita Ababiri town, along the Kampala – Entebbe High way.

    We are joining heads to see the further growth of this club in particular and the beach soccer sport.

    Addressing journalists after the dummy cheque handover ceremony, UBSA Chairperson Deo Mutabazi was glad that individual clubs are striving to get individual sponsorships meanwhile the uniting body finalizes the main sponsors back on board.

    It is good that individual clubs seek sponsorships.

    In love with the exciting fast paced indoor football? Then, make it a date every Thursday night  at the International Futsal Courts in Mengo, Kampala.

    The game, popularly referred to as Futsal is picking steam in Uganda at a steady fast rate.

    From being played as a leisure sport to the mini league held last year, the sport has graduated into the first ever Uganda Futsal Super league.

    The super league is already underway with two match days as the matches take center stage every Thursday.

    There are 10 teams duly for this championship that will climax early next year.

    Action of the Futsal Super League on match day one

    Over the opening two match days, 53 goals have been scored in just 6 matches, manifesting the urge for the back of the net in these high intensity matches.

    24 of these goals came on the opening match day, with 5 goals improvement on the subsequent match day.

    Yap Stars’ massive 11- 8 win against Parakeets is the highest scoring game this season whilst Yeak Kabowa’s 3-1 loss to KPSG is the lowest scoring game thus far.

    Futsal Association Uganda (FAU) president, Hamza Jjunju envisages a bright future for the sport.

    Futsal in Uganda started on a humble note.

    With more facilities coming up and the continued interest from Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), the game has gradually grown for the better.

    Add to the fact that Eng. Moses Magogo heads the Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee in Africa, the game in Uganda is braced for bigger feats.

    In Uganda, Futsal is played at Lugogo Indoor Arena, Busega, Kyebando, at many international schools and now in Mengo.

    FUFA has organized a fresher course for Uganda Premier League club coaches, their assistants and fitness coaches.  Holders of CAF “A” coaching licenses will also attend the refresher course at FUFA Technical Centre, Nejru from 9th to 10th November, 2017.

    The FUFA Education Officer Jackson Nyiima confirmed the course.

    ‘Communication was sent to all stakeholders who fall in the category we need for this course. We expect good turn up from the clubs playing in the Azam Uganda Premier League’ said Nyiima.

    Nyiima revealed that new aspects of the game will be taught to the participants.

    ‘Coaches will be introduced to the new technical developments in football, periodic planning, principles of training, match analysis, game reading and leadership concepts’ added Nyiima who is one of the two CAF Instructors who can examine and assess the coaches in Uganda and on the African Continent. Asumani Lubowa is the other Instructor.

    Coaches will also be given topics for discussions and field practical presentations.

    Maroons FC have picked up yet another routine win over Proline FC in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    Chika Sydney scored the all- important goal for Maroons on 38 minutes for the maximum points. Maroon won 1-0.

    In Bombo, Police FC handled by Abdallah Mubiru edged UPDF 1-0. Hood Kaweesa was the hero for the cops side with the strike coming early in the game at the 17th minute.

    At Muteesa II Stadium, Hamza Muwonge made several saves for his team Bright Stars FC as the Kawempe based side drew 0-0 with Express Fc.

    The competition in the 2017/18 FUFA Women Elite League continues to get tougher every other match day as teams seek to fulfill their targets for this season.
    Over the weekend, several teams were in action across different grounds in the Country as the league entered match day three.
    New comers Isra Academy continue to be the surprise package this season as they went ahead to defeat Wakiso Hills 3-1 and register their maiden win in the league.Isra remains unbeaten this season with two draws and a win to their account.
    In the game played at Wakisha playground on Sunday, Wakiso Hills took the lead through Amina Kalemba but a resuscitated performance from Isra Academy saw them stage a comeback to eventually win.
    A brace from Fauzia Najjemba and another goal from Sophia Nakiyingi helped Isra to win and move top in Elizabeth group on five points in three games. They had drawn against She MAK and Uganda Martyrs in their first two games.
    Najjemba now leads the scoring chart with five goals in three games.
    In the other game played on Sunday, Gafford Ladies needed a 71st minute goal from Kenyan striker Lilian Veronica Zedi to edge past Western United in Kabwohe.
    The game between Kampala Queens and Eastern Heroes was not played with the latter failing to show up at Villa park.  However Eastern Heroes honoured their match against She MAK on Saturday which they lost 3-0 at Makerere University Sports Ground.
    On Saturday, She Corporate registered the biggest win so far this season outwitting Rines Women’s Football Club 5-0 in Nakawa.
    Jennifer Mirembe struck a brace while Aisha Babirye , Noeline Namubiru and Mary Jean Iyezimana added a goal each to complete the rout.
    This was the first win for She Corporate this season after two goalless draws in their opening two games.
    Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim showed their intent of reclaiming the championship with a 2-0 win against Muteesa I Royal University at Wankulukuku.
    Lethal striker Juliet Nalukenge converted a penalty and added another goal to register a brace on the day. This took her goal tally to four this season.
    Kawempe Muslim moved top in Victoria group with six points in two games.
    She MAK eased past Eastern Heroes winning the game 3-0 at Makerere playground despite the visitors coming late.
    Captain Anne Mary Kobusingye scored twice while Fabby Kitimbo netted the other goal to help She MAK to their first win this season.
    The top two teams from Elizabeth group and Victoria group at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoff stage to determine the champion.

    The Interim coach of the Uganda Cranes Moses Basena has released a 32 man squad from which he will select the final team to travel to Congo Brazzaville for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

    Uganda Cranes will face Congo Brazzaville on 12th November in the final group match of teh qualificatin Campaign.

    ‘We shall use the match to fine tune players for forthcoming international fixtures for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, CHAN in Morocco and the 2019 Nations Cup Qualifiers. The door is not closed for other players’ said Basena.

    ‘We want to finish on a high in this campaign as postive results create a good attitude from the players and within the camp’ added Basena.

    The squad predominantly has players featuring in the Azam Uganda Premier League and 8 foreign based stars.

    The training programme starts on 1st November, 2017 4pm at Mandela National Stadium.

    The 2017 Airtel FUFA Awards have been launched at Kampala Serena Hotel on Thursday.

    For the third year running, telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda Limited will be the main sponsors.

    Just like the previous editions, this year’s awards will be at Speke Resort Munyonyo on 1st December 2017.

    Addressing the members of the media Dennis Mbidde, chairman of the 2017 FUFA Awards organizing committee, hailed the sponsors, partners, players, fans and the entire football fraternity for the necessary due support.

    New Football tournament ‘The FUFA Drum’ launched for 16 Provinces in Uganda

    FUFA has introduced another football tournament aimed at taking the game to the masses based on Provinces in Uganda.

    The FUFA Inter Provinces Competition to be named the ‘The Drum’ was launched today at FUFA House by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo following a resolution of the 93rd FUFA Ordinary General Assembly and the 13th FUFA Executive Committee directive to formulate the Competition.

    The Competition will be played between 16 provinces of Uganda and will be called ‘The Drum’. It will be run and managed by official FUFA regulations.

    FUFA will meet the cost of the teams in the areas of accommodation, transport,  individual and team winners’ Prizes, trophies and medals plus costs of match officials including the competition and training balls.

    ‘We have already conducted the seeding of the teams and the tournament will kick-off in January 2018. We expect to hold draws in Kasese where the final of the tournament will be played’

    Political districts shall mean those that existed as at 1st July 2017. Districts created after will belong to where their original (Parent) Districts belong or where not applicable FUFA will give a new guidance.

    Eligible Players;

     Players eligible to play for a province are;

    1. Those whose biological mother or father is of descent or ancestry from such a province.
    2. Those whose biological mother or father has lived in that province for a period of not less than 10 years.
    3. Only Ugandan players shall be legible to play.
    4. Once a player represents a province, he will not represent any other province again unless in special circumstances as may be decided by the FUFA Executive Committee

     

    1. Players representing their respective province teams for the first time will be required to fill form F501 that will include the endorsement of the LC-1 of the area of ancestry or residence.
    • The Drum is a competition open to all male players who satisfy the above conditions who may also;
    1. not be registered by any FIFA Member Association
    2. be registered by any FIFA Member Association
    3. be registered by FUFA and playing in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Division League.

    Competition Format

    The competition shall be played using a mixed format of 4 Groups composed of 4 Teams. In each group, each team will play 3 matches at home and 3 matches away. The top 2 teams in each group will proceed to the 2 legged-quarter final played on a home-away basis. The semifinals will also be played on a-home-away basis while the finals will be 1-leg match at a predetermined location.

    Kampala Regional Football Association has officially released the road map for the 2017/18 season.

    In a press conference organized at FUFA House on Friday, the region vice chairman Peter Nkugwa who was joined by the CEO Isaac Ssengendo and media committee member Meddie Ssengendo underlined the bold intention of the association to organize all the football activities of the region to perfection.

    ‘We are glad to officially release our road map to the public. Kampala Region is privileged to announce the first ever super cup that will be like a curtain raiser to the season’ Nkugwa noted.

    Mutungo (losing finalists in the regional promotional final to Ntinda United) will play Lungujja Galaxy in the first ever edition of the Kampala region super cup at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium this Sunday.

    On the same day, the winning team of the U-15 league (Sparta 09) and the outstanding players will be rewarded.

    Sparta 09 will engage Jiddah African Child team in the earlier curtain raiser at 2 p.m.

    For the record, Kampala Region started the first ever U-15 football league in the country, a feat that Nkugwa attributed to good planning.

    ‘As Kampala Region, we have always set the trend. There is good planning. We organized the U-15, now we have the Super Cup and there are lots other things planned in the pipeline’ he added.

    He also hinted of the other activities that are run by the region as the women football league (Isra Academy were champions in 2017) and the Uganda Cup.

    Registration for the Uganda Cup with the non league teams expected to pay Shs 300,000. The 4th division and regional clubs (3rd division) will pay Shs 200,000 and Shs. 100,000 respectively.

    Of these, 10 came in the Rwenzori group and the other 11 in the Elgon group.

    Nyamityobora Football Club scored the most goals on the day, during their 4-0 home win against SunCity in Mbarara.

    David Kizza scored twice for Nyamityobora. Joseph Akandwanaho and Musa Docca got the other goals for Nyamityobora.

    George Otim got newly promoted Ntinda United’ lone goal on the day against visiting Greater Masaka United at the Kamwokya play ground.

    Lira’s Amuka Bright Stars out-muscled visiting Ndejje University 1-0 with Dickens ‘Diarra’ Okwi on target.

    Another Lira club, Lira United lost their second game in a row, falling 2-1 at Agape S.S in Namutumba.

    Twaha Sendi and Faizal Babalanda found the back of the net for Agape as Solomon Wafula scored for Lira United.

    Meanwhile, Kamuli Park registered a morale boosting 2-0 win against Paidha Black Angels in Kamuli.

    The league takes a one day break before resuming on the weekend.
