    CAF clears St Mary’s Stadium

    Continental soccer governing body CAF has approved St Mary’s stadium in Kitende. In a communication from CAF Club Licensing Manager in the Competitions Department signed by Ahmed Harraz, part of the letter read;

    ‘Kindly be informed that CAF has approved the St Mary’s Stadium and you can now select as a venue for your matches’

    The clearance comes after CAF inspector Nicholas Musonye was sent to Uganda on Tuesday to come up with a final report which was based on before the CAF Club Licensing Committee came up with the approval.

    Reigning Champions Kawempe Muslim SS Women FC continued with their rich vein in form defeating London Stallions 10-0 to remain unbeaten this season. They hve won all their 7 outings so far.

    FUFA player of the yer Hasifah Nasuuna netted 4 goals while Yudaya Nakayenze, Juliet Nalukenge and Fvaour Nambatya got two goals each.

    Sunday Game: SC Villa Vs Sadolin Paints – Nakivubo Stadium.

    Teenager Allan Okello scored the first hat-trick of the 2016/17 Azam Uganda Premier League as KCCA football Club defeated Onduparaka 7-0 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.

    A brace from Robert Sentongo and further goals from Paul Musamali and Geoffrey Sserunkuma completed the rout for KCCA F.C.

    This was the heaviest defeat Onduparaka suffered since being promoted to the top flight league last season.

    In Jinja, at the Kakindu Stadium, Jinja Municipal Council Hippos and Lweza played to a one all draw.

    Herbert Odipio scored the opening goal in the 45th minute for the home side before John Kisakye brought the game level.

    On Sunday, there is only one game at Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala when 16 time league champions, SC Villa entertains Sadolin Paints, another Jinja based team (Sadolin Paints host their home games at Namboole after switching from Bugembe which is under renovation at the start of second round).

    Meanwhile, Vipers Sports Club has requested the league committee that their next league match  on the 28th February 2017 against JMC Hippos to be played at Namboole.

    The request was granted.

    Speaker of Parliament meets Infantino, promises full backing to FUFA and Uganda Cranes

    The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga hosted the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino during a breakfast meeting held at Addis Hall, Kampala Serena International Hotel.

    The break fast meeting was attended by the Uganda Cranes sponsors and all the FUFA Partners – Airtel Uganda, Nile Breweries Limited, National Insurance Corporation and Eco Bank.

    Hon. Kadaga recounted the fond memories she had with the Uganda Cranes in Gabon during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament and vowed to support  Uganda Cranes and FUFA at all times.

    “I welcome Mr Gianni Infantino the President of FIFA. It is a big honour to host you here. Our national team, the Uganda Cranes did wonders when they beat Comoros last year to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. I was so excited when i heard all the three stanzas of the Uganda National Anthem being played in Port Gentil. As the national parliament, we are ready and willing to support the Uganda Cranes and FUFA in all their programmes” Hon. Kadaga stated.

    The FIFA President, who was marking the second day of his visit to Uganda appreciated the internal organization of FUFA.

    “At FIFA, we are monitoring closely all the activities for the 211 member associations, Uganda inclusive. We are humbled and excited about the work being done by FUFA. They are a model association and please keep it up.”Infantino noted.

    Uganda Cranes technical team led by the head coach, Milutin Sredejovic also graced the Breakfast meeting.

    From Serena, Infantino met the football delegates, club chairmen and the special interest groups at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

    He singled out  and praised the respective duties executed to perfection by the delegates and club chairmen towards developing football.

    After the Africana meetings, he proceeded to the Phillip Omondi Stadium where he watched the Lweza Oranje Brigade battle KCCA Soccer Academy in the FUFA U-17 league.

    He also talked to the Current and Ex-Uganda Cranes internationals, young, active and retired referees and also, applauded their work.

    Infantino graced the official ground breaking of the Kadiba Ground in Rubaga, conducted a guided tour around FUFA House, was hosted on 102.1 FUFA f.m before he addressed the media at Ivy’s Hotel in Wakaliga.

    The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA)-host of the FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirms the change in programme for the arrival of the world football leader.

    Infantino will jet in on Friday 24th February at 6pm and fly out the following day.

    Initially Infantino’s arrival had been scheduled for 25th February but it has now been brought forward by a day to 24th February.

    ‘The programme has been changed to suit the stakeholders who will meet the FIFA President on the historic visit to Uganda. It was done in consultation with the team at FIFA in Zurich and all parties involved are comfortable with the new schedule’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

    ‘The change will not affect the duration of stay for FIFA President in Uganda. He will be here still for the two day period which had been communicated earlier’ added Hussein.

    Infantino who was elected as FIFA President 2016 is expected to meet The President of the Republic of Uganda HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, The Minister of Sports and Education, Hon Janet Museveni, FUFA Executive Committee, Members of FUFA, football stakeholders inclusive of the sponsors of FUFA and Uganda Cranes.

    Since his election last year, Infantino has embarked on meeting FIFA Member Associations around the globe to share ideas on football development projects.

    Sc Villa were cruising 2-0 until the 62nd minute when Mahad Kaooza pulled one back for Lweza while Owen Kasula netted in the 87th minute.

    Lweza were recovering from two successive defeats at the hands of Vipers and Bright Stars FC.

    Villa took the lead through Okwi Emma in the 28th minute before Alex Kitata got his team’s second in the 58th minute at Nakivubo stadium

    FUFA confirms FIFA President Infantino’s visit to Uganda

    FIFA President Gianni Infantino will pay a two day visit to Uganda at the invitation of FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo.

    Infantino who was elected to office in 2016, has embarked on meeting FIFA Member Associations around the globe to share ideas on football development projects.

    In a confirmation letter to FUFA President and signed by FIFA President, the visit will cover two days 25th and 26th February, 2017.

    Part of the letter reads;

    ‘I am very pleased to confirm my visit. I will be arriving in Entebbe on 25th February 2017. I have no doubt that this visit will help us to lay foundations for further cooperation and to share our personal visions for the continued development of our sport in your country’

    FUFA President who is in Doha for the FIFA Executive football Summit said;

    ‘Football needs such contacts for the sport to grow. Ugandan football will not be the same after his visit. It is a great moment in Ugandan football’

    FUFA President makes presentation on grassroots football at FIFA Executive Summit in Doha

    FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson are in Doha at the invitation of world soccer governing body FIFA. Having flown out of the country on Tuesday night, the FUFA President was on a programme set by FIFA to make a presentation on grassroots football to the football big wigs on Thursday morning.

    ‘It is a great opportunity to talk about football at such an important gathering in Doha. Football around the globe needs such programmes to flourish’ said Eng. Magogo.

    During such opportunities, the FUFA President has held meetings with football contacts.

    ‘In 2016 Edgar Watson and grassroots football trained coach Vincent Tumusiime traveled to Slovenia and took part in the UEFA grassroots programme. Those are signs of creating football contacts’ added FUFA President.

    The two-day event chaired by FIFA President Gianni Infantino focuses on “FIFA 2.0 – The Vision for the Future” strategy, the “Forward” program, and development of children and youth football.

    The summit brings together executives of football federations of Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Qatar, Namibia, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Denmark, Lithuania, Serbia, Sweden and Ukraine.

    West Nile product Oromchan Villa released by URA FC at the start of this year was on song with a brace for BUL FC who defeated Express FC at Kakindu stadium in Jinja.

    BUL FC won 3-0 to move a place in the table standings but remain in the bottom three in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

    Steven Luswata scored an own goal as BUL picked up maximum points.

    FUFA player of the year Muhammad Shaban lived up to his billing as the best player of 2016 when he walked on to the Betway Green Light stadium with a mission to lead his club to victory but the Caterpillars could only get a point in a 2-2 draw. Onduparaka let URA recover from a 2-0 lead to share the spoils.

    Shaban who was playing his first game in-front of his home fans after returning from the AFCON finals in Gabon, netted his team’s opening goal in the first half before defender Acram Kakembo got the second for the Arua based side.

    Shaban has now gone to 10 goals in the league as he also scored against Proline in his team’s 3-1 defeat last Wednesday at the Philip Omondi stadium.

    URA’s goals came in the final nine minutesof the game, one of them scored by Sam Sekitto in the 81st minute. Robert Mukongotya got the other for the tax payers.

    At Lugogo, Police FC edged home side Proline 1-0 in the televised match (Azam TV). Both goalkeepers Kenyi Said (Proline) and Yasin Mugabi ( Police FC) saved penalties during the game. Police’s Hood Kaweesa missed the spot kick while Bayo Fahad for Proline.

    Yasin Mugume scored the game’s solitary goal.

    FIFA Connect: Verification exercise gets under way to collect data of all football stakeholders in Uganda

    The data verification exercise of all football stakeholders in Uganda under the FIFA Connect programme got underway on Monday. The exercise will be conducted by FUFA trained data verifying officers under the office of the CEO and Competitions Department.

    In two separate communications (Circulars- 1050 sent on 14th Dec, 2016 and a reminder on circular 1054 dated 9th Feb, 2017) to the various stakeholders including FUFA’s 33 members, the exercise will help collect data of all clubs and their officials in Uganda at all levels.

    Part of the communication signed by FUFA CEO reads;

    ‘The exercise will commence on Monday 13th February, 2017 throughout the country according to the schedules released by FUFA. The exercise will be conducted by FUFA data verifying officers to collect information of all clubs, club officials, coaches, players and referees’

    The FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and Competitions Director Ali Mwebe attended a specialized workshop on the FIFA connect programme in Botswana that saw Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe send representatives. The hosts-Botswana also sent in attendants.

    The workshop was aimed to improve in the areas of record keeping and database collection for proper management by FIFA MAs.

    The seminar will impart knowledge to the participants that will see FIFA Member Associations move from the current License Plus to the FIFA Connect Programme under the ‘Know Your Person Project’

  • FIFA sends message of condolence following the loss of Segwanga Musisi

    The President of the world soccer governing body FIFA Gianni Infantino has sent a message of condolence to FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo following the death of Mzee Kezekiah Segwanga Musisi on Saturday night. Segwanga was FUFA President from 1972-1974.

    The message dated 8th February was signed by Infantino.

    Part of the message reads;

    ‘Please accept my deepest condolences on hearing of the passing away of former FUFA President, CECAFA founder and life member Kezekiah Segwanga Musisi.

    On behalf of the members of the International football community, i should be grateful if you could extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

    We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness’

    Segwanga Musisi was laid to rest on Tuesday in Nakasajja.
