The Minister of education and sports Hon. Major (rtd) Jessica Rose Alupo Epel on Monday May 13 addressed a press conference at the Media Centre and gave the government’s final position in resolving the FUFA Super League (FSL) and the Uganda Super League (USL) disputes.

The Minister said, the undesirable situation of running two parallel top division National Football leagues had negatively impacted on the development of the game by casting Uganda’s name as a nation in bad light, eroding the public interest and support for football, jeopardizing professional development and turning away potential sponsors among others.

  • Lugazi to host FUFA Big League finals

Dan Wagaluka will play a pivotal role if his side Soana FC is to overcome Koboko in an anticipated thriller to determine the third place team in this year’s FUFA Super League.

Following the conclusion of the group matches and the first stage of the play offs, FUFA through its Competitions Committee wishes to announce the confirmed match date and the venue for the finals of the FBL 2012/2013.

Given the fact that this year’s COPA Coca Cola kicks off on Saturday 4th May 2013 in Kabaale, the date for the final FBL match day has been fixed on Thursday 2nd May 2013 at Mehta Stadium in Lugazi.

Decolas Kiiza, the acting Competitions Director said the first match to determine third place team between Koboko and Soana will be played at 1:30pm. The winner in this game will join CRO and Bright Stars in the FUFA Super League next season.

The finals meant to determine the champions of this year’s FBL will be played at 4:00pm between CRO and Bright Stars at the same venue.

In order to ensure all is provided for, Kiiza said there will be a pre-match meeting on Wednesday 1st May 2013 at FUFA House Board Room starting 1:00 pm. The team captain must accompany the club officials and carry along two samples of the club’s expected jersey to be used on the match day.

The gate charges on the match day have been put at UGX 5,000 for the VIP and UGX 3,000 for the open stands.

  • Tanda in ‘controversial’ Wakiso District League victory

    Results:

    Entebbe United 2 – 4 Manyago, Kyaliwajjala 1 – 2 Lufuka, Kataka 0 – 3 Kitende, Tanda 14-KB Lions 1, Kira 0-Gayaza 0

Ebenezer Tanda FC walloped helpless KB Lions 14-1 on Sunday to emerge winners of this year’s 4th Division League in Wakiso district.

Their championship will however remain in suspense until the league organizers finalize the investigations into alleged match fixing. Wakiso DFA Secretary Haruna Kyobe said in a statement, “Ebenezer Tanda’s controversial win is already under investigations following the manner in which proceedings at Kajjansi [playground] unfolded before, during and after the match”.

Kyobe added, “All concerned parties in the KB Lions Vs Ebenezer Tanda match have been summoned for questioning tomorrow [Tuesday] at Fufa House at 10:00am before a final verdict is passed. The league champion will be declared after the committee’s fact finding meetings have taken place”.

In another league game, Kira FC that needed an outright win against Gayaza to lift this year’s title couldn’t perform beyond a goalless draw, a result that left both players and officials speechless. If proved innocent, Ebenezer Tanda FC will therefore emerge league champions on a superior goal difference.

Another game involving Wakiso Youth Stars and Nsangi Youth FC failed to kick off following a misunderstanding over players’ licenses. The committee will later pronounce itself on the same.  FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa will preside over the official crowning of the league champion on May 17 at Kajjansi play ground starting 4:00pm.

    Prizes include

    Champions: UGX 4m, a trophy + 20 Gold medals.

    Second Place: UGX 2m + 3 balls
    Third place: UGX1m + 2 balls
    Fourth place:  UGX 0.5m + 2 balls
Top Scorer: A pair of playing boots.

  • Darfur set to host this year’s Cecafa Club Championship

Cecafa General Secretary Nicholas Musonye being received at Al Fashir Airport by the State Minister for Finance Dr. Abdu Doad Sulaiman on Friday afternoon. The delegation is in Sudan to access the readiness of the country in hosting this year’s Kagame Cup.

This year’s Cecafa Kagame Club Championship will almost certainly take place in Darfur, Sudan after official inspectors were encouraged by the efforts of the people and facilities at El Fashir City, the biggest in North Darfur State.

Another Sudan State, South Kordofan, also hopes to host some of the group matches. Cecafa [Council of East and Central African Football Associations] officials will visit the city of Kadogly on Tuesday to see whether it is a suitable co-host of the 14-team event.

The council Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye, said in Al Fashir City on Sunday, that Darfur was 90% ready to host the event, but for only two of the three groups.

Two football stadiums in Al Fashir – Al Nuggaa [capacity 10,000] and Al Fashir [15,000] – were of impressive quality and so were hotel accommodation and transport and security capabilities.

“But,” Musonye said, “training pitches are a challenge. The hosts will try and make that better by the time of the event.”

The Sudan Football Association [SFA] administration based in Khartoum has given full support to far-flung states hosting international sport for the first time and there is a whole-hearted dedication by the Governor of North Darfur to pull off a sports hosting quite unprecedented.

Governor Osman Mohamed Yousuf Kibir was out of the country but his deputy, Al Fatih Abdulaziz Abdulnadir assured Cecafa of maximum attention to the championship.

A local organizing committee headed by State Minister for Finance and Civil Services, Dr Abdu Daod, briefed Cecafa official on advanced planning of the tournament.

First impressions about Darfur, a place not open to most of the rest of the world, were of a population that loves sport and football, volleyball and basketball games by ordinary Darfurians and also very present military are played in every corner of Al Fashir.

The enthusiasm and abundant playing space surpasses many other places in East and Central Africa.

Deputy Governor Abdulnadir said peace and security in Darfur long returned to the state after years of strife and that the state was ready to receive visitors.

“We have already hosted a large American delegation in North Darfur and the Federal Government in Khartoum, after observing that, have confidence in our security abilities.”

Cecafa have sent out invitation to all the 12 affiliates to confirm their participants. Musonye said the confirmed guests were Democratic Republic of Congo team St Eloi Lupopo of Lubumbashi.

Cecafa participants will be: Young Africans – (defending champions), Simba (Tanzania Mainland), Zanzibar representatives, El Merriekh, Al Hilal (Sudan),Tusker (Kenya), Express (Uganda), APR (Rwanda), Vital’O (Burundi), Ports (Djibouti), Elman (Somalia), South Sudan representative and St George (Ethiopia). Eritrea have not confirmed an entry.

  • Wakiso 4th Division League heats up

The FUFA president Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa (left) has offered cash prizes to the winners of Wakiso 4th Division League

As we head closer to Wakiso 4th Division League climax, men are being separated from boys as the search for the league champion intensifies. The district league competitions committee passed out verdicts on a number of pending cases and below is the detailed report.

1.Migadde Highway FC was disqualified from the Wakiso 4th Division League for failure to honour three (3) matches this season against Manyago (in the first round),Kataka & Kitende. Their second round results were nullified however, according to the regulations, the first round results stand since they played 50% of the matches.

    2. Match no 108- Kataka FC officials protested the referees decision by walking their team off the pitch with a few minutes to the end of the game hence Kataka FC forfeited the match points.

    3. Match no 113 – Lufuka didn’t show up for the match against Kitende. Interestingly one of their officials appeared at the field & filled the referees report with his players’ names. However, when time for inspection came, the listed players were not available thus Kitende were awarded the points.

    4. Match no 124 – Entebbe United arrived late for their home match against Wakiso Youth. By the time referees finished the players’ inspection, time couldn’t allow the game to take place. Wakiso Youth were also awarded the points for that match.

    5. Match no 138 – KB Lions Vs Kataka, KB Lions arrived late for this engagement thus forfeiting the match.

    6. Match no 141 – Kitende Vs KB Lions, This match was abandoned with 14 minutes remaining after both teams failed to get an alternative ball to play. The original one had been deliberately hit by a KB Lions player in the nearby gate when Kitende was leading 1-0, the ball was never recovered leading the referees to abandoning the match. The match will thus be re played for only the remaining 14 minutes on Tuesday 23 April 2013 at Kitende with the same set of referees who were initially appointed to officiate it. The match will also go on with the same players who were on the pitch.

    7. Match no 157 – Kira Vs KB Lions The visiting team (KB Lions) failed to show up for this engagement hence forfeiting the match with a 3-0 margin score to Kira FC.

Next round of matches resume tomorrow Thursday 18th April 2013 at various grounds as listed below.

Ebenezer Tanda Vs Manyago at Ebb Tanda

KB Lions vs Lufuka at Kajjansi

Namugongo Janda Vs Kira at Namugongo

Kyaliwajjala Vs Nsangi Youth at Namugongo Boys

Gayaza United Vs Kitende at Gayaza

Wakiso Youth Vs Kataka at Wakiso

All matches kick off at 4:30pm

Mugerwa Hakim of Kira FC is leading the scorers chart with 15 goals closely followed by Mustapha Hast of Wakiso Youth who has 10 goals, Mukasa Bonny of Kataka, Kayondo Mike of Lufuka and Kisitu Augustine of Gayaza are all tied in the third place with 8 goals each.

    Prizes at stake

    Champion – UGX 4m,Gold Medals & a trophy

    Runners Up – UGX 2 m

    Third placed – UGX 1m

    Fourth Placed – UGX 0.5 m

The above prizes were offered by the FUFA president who also happens to be Wakiso’s delegate to the Fufa General Assembly.

  • FUFA Committee to decide players’ fate on Wednesday next week

Victoria University players celebrating a league match victory. One of their former players filed a case against the club demanding adequate compensation over what he termed ‘illegal sacking’.

The FUFA players’ status committee will convene next week on Wednesday, March 27 to give its final ruling in a number of cases involving different FUFA Super League players.

The Committee head who is also the West Nile Regional Chairperson, Mr. Mike Letti says the sessions will commence at 9:00am at the Federation headquarters in Mengo.

Among the cases on the agenda include:

    1.     Player Ssempala Hashim of BULS FC whom Express FC claims his new club has refused to meet the agreed obligations. The player’s license was recently put to hold.

    2.     Player Elasu Quddus of URA faces a challenge from his former Club, Proline FC who allege he still had a running contract with them despite a stretch of over one year as a ‘free agent’.

    3.     Waisswa Tonny formerly with Victoria University accuses the club for sacking him without adequate compensation.

    4.     Peter Ssenyonjo and Hamis Kitagenda both formerly with URA but currently featuring for Soana in the FUFA Big League are also seeking compensation from their former club for alleged illegal dismissal from duty.

    5.     Player Salim Omar Magoola of KCC FC is being claimed by Express FC on grounds that his movement was faked by an impersonator.

  • Cranes’ camp in Accra cancelled

The Uganda Cranes will now fly direct into Monrovia City for their 2014 World Cup Qualifiers game against Liberia due on Sunday.

Earlier on, FUFA had arranged a preparatory camp in Accra, Ghana but due to lack of timely flight connections, the arrangement has now been dropped.

FUFA wishes to clarify that the decision to cancel out the camp was not based on Ghana’s refusal to play an international friendly with us. Even with the first arrangement, we were not playing a friendly match in Accra as alleged in some media reports.

The team will now leave Entebbe International Airport on Friday morning at 1:40am via Addis Ababa and Accra cities. Geoffrey Massa and Joseph Ochaya will link up with the rest of the delegation in Accra.

Meanwhile, the rest of the players attended training today except Henry Kalungi who is expected in the country later tonight.

  • Kasese FUFA Delegate, 6 players in a road accident

Western Regional chairman, Michael Wandera Enganjani confirmed the reports to FUFA

Kasese district FUFA delegate Robert Donny together with six Western Region League players were on Sunday night injured in a road accident along Kampala-Mubende highway.

Donny an official with New Villa FC and a FUFA referee had accompanied his club to Oyam district for a FUFA organized Uganda Cup match against Rising Stars FC. The visitors lost 1-0 before they faced an accident as they travelled back home.

An unidentified omnibus driver, Reg. No. UAJ 106R in which the club was travelling swerved off the road in an attempt to dodge an over speeding trailer. The trailer reportedly had full lights that made the taxi driver lose clear sight of the road.

The injured players have been identified as Mutyaba Nasoor, Mwenzukye Angelo Isaac, Byakatonda Moses, Baruku Robert, Christopher Busingye and Umar Ssematiko. Donny was also travelling with his wife M/s Agnes Mwirumubi who also got injured.

Christopher Busingye was however critically injured and he has been transferred to Mulago Govt.referral hospital in Kampala as the rest get maintained at Mubende.

  • Hassan Wasswa gets provisional license

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has issued player Hassan Wasswa with a provisional ITC to enable him take part in active football as FIFA continues with the investigations into a case filed against him by his former Turkish club.

Wasswa was issued with a license No. FSL_1301148 and he is currently a player of KCC FC. The Turkish Federation on advice from Kayseri Erciyesspor FC had earlier blocked the player’s move to acquire the relevant document on grounds that he had mysteriously gone missing from the club.

FIFA later appointed a single American judge to further study the case. The judge ruled that the player be granted a provisional playing license as the investigations proceed.

  • URA Vs Coton Sport: Free entry for students

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club has announced a free entry for all students and children during their CAF Champions League return leg against Coton Sport of Cameroon on Saturday March 2 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

This was contained in an address by the club Director in charge of marketing Hajji Ssesanga Magala during a press conference at FUFA house this Wednesday morning.

Ssesanga however clarified that only students in full uniforms bearing the badges and children in company of their parents will access the stadium under this arrangement. He also announced the official entry charges as UGX 5000 and UGX 10.000 for the open stands and the pavilion respectively.

Coton Sport arrives this Thursday, 07:05pm and will be accommodated at Sky Hotel in Naalya. Sssesanga said the home team had camped in Jinja but would appear for trainings in Namboole on Thursday morning and afternoon.

Mbaga Orden will be in charge of the Saturday game assisted by Erasmo Jesse and Changwalu Hamis. Mujuni Israel is the standby referee. All match officials come from Tanzania. CAF has also appointed Djibouti FA President Waberi Soulemani Hassan as the match commissioner.  FUFA has designated Decolas Kiiza as the match liaison officer.

  • FIFA names single Judge in Hassan Wasswa case

Cranes player Hassan Wasswa celebrating with fans after captaining the team to a 13th Cecafa title in December last year.

The International Football body (FIFA) has named an American as a single judge in the Hassan Wasswa case following a resistance by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to clear him for an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

FIFA on Tuesday February 12th wrote to FUFA indicating that all the investigations into this case had been concluded and the matter handed over to Mr. Chuck Blazer as a single judge for further consideration and final ruling.

According to the Turkish FA General Secretary Prof. Dr. Emre Alkin, Hassan Wasswa’s contract with Club Kayseri was terminated after he reportedly failed to honour several official invitations back to the club.

“Our affiliated club has terminated the contract between Hassan Wasswa and itself. For that reason, Club Kayseri Erciyesspor objected to the issuing of the ITC for player Hassan Wasswa”, reads part of the Turkish FA letter to FIFA secretariat.

FIFA, through Counsel Saskja Kuhn of the Players status committee had earlier given TFF up to February 12 to give a final response as to why they were holding onto Wasswa’s ITC. Their response came on the eve of the expiry of the ultimatum.

Wasswa’s move to KCC will therefore remain on hold until the appointed single judge gives his final verdict. FUFA however requests FIFA to speed up the process in order to give the Cranes player an opportunity to get involved in active football a head of the World Cup qualifiers matches due next month.

  • FUFA referee dies hours after League game!

A FUFA Grade III Referee died in a motor accident Tuesday night just hours after he had officiated a match involving two Kitara Regional League clubs.

Ojwiya Patrick, a resident of Kiryandongo was reportedly riding a motorcycle when he met his death. According to the area delegate George Kabwimukya, the deceased collided with another motor cyclist around 8:00pm and died on spot.

Earlier in the day, Ojwiya had officiated a tense Regional League game in Masindi between Red Eagles and Hoima Young Stars. The visitors walloped the hosts 3-0. But despite the loss by the home team, there was no commotion and the fans hailed the referee for a professional performance.

“Little did we know that this good referee had only come to bid farewell to us” said Kabwimukya. Ojwiya will be laid to rest this Thursday at his ancestral ground in Amuru district.

FUFA wishes to convey our most heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and the entire football fraternity in western and the northern regions for this untimely death of our committed referee. There is no doubt, Ojwiya died on duty and we shall always miss his srrvices. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

FUFA has urged lower division league club managers to put a lot of emphasis on the discipline of their players as part of the strategy to prepare them for higher levels of association football with fewer difficulties.

Club officials have also been reminded to conduct themselves in a manner acceptable to the football family as they execute their duties. The advice was given by the FUFA executive member and chairman of FUFA Zone 12 Rogers Mulindwa while officiating at the opening of Nakaseke District First Division League at Ngoma.

Hosts Ngoma FC drew 1-1 with visiting Kapeeka United in a match well officiated by FUFA Referee Edward Lugoloobi. Nakaseke has ten (10) clubs featuring in their league this season that include Kapeeka FC, Kapeeka shooting Stars, Nkozi FC, Semuto All Stars and Kirema Utd.

Others are New Hope, Kiwoko Hospital, Kapeke Black Bufalo, Kasana-Kanaabe and Ngoma FC. Mulindwa donated balls to all participating teams.
