Uganda Cranes arrives safely in Togo

Uganda Cranes team arrived safely in Lome ahead of tomorrow’s international friendly with Togo in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Ghana on Friday in Tamale.

The Cranes will reside at Modern City Hotel, Tamale while in Ghana when they leave Lome on Thursday morning.

‘The players are in good spirits. We are ready for the game on Tuesday. The players will have a training session later today at Kegue stadium that will host the match’ said Crispus Muyinda who travelled much earlier ahead of the team on Saturday.

Players link up in Ethiopia

Goalkeeper Salim Jamal, Moses Oloya, Faruku Miya, Murshid Juuko, Isaac Isinde and Godfrey Walusimbi linked up with players in Adis Ababa who started the journey from Kampala. Tony Mawejje is also with the team after joining the initial squad at Entebbe Airport.

Kizito Luwagga and Yunus Sentamu will join the team tonight while Denis Onyango links up with the rest of the team tomorrow morning.

The Leader of Delegation is FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye while Stephen Mayamba is the team’s media attache.

Uganda Cranes final squad to Ghana named, FUFA VP Mugoye is Leader of Delegation

Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic has named his final 19 that will play Togo in an international friendly on Tuesday 4th October in Lome and Ghana on Friday 7th October (2018 FIFA World Cup Russia) in Tamale.

The team flies out tonight at midnight aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

The Squad had two training sessions at Mandela National stadium, Namboole on Saturday and Sunday.

FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye who will travel with the team as Leader of Delegation watched the morning session on Sunday.

The team leaves in a buoyant mood after FUFA received UGX 660M from H.E. The President of the Republic of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni towards preparations of the game against Ghana.

President Museveni made a personal call to FUFA boss Eng. Moses Magogo on Saturday to deliver a message through him to the players ahead of the game.

Sentamu and Luwagga will connect with the team in Lome while the rest of the players will link up with the team in Adis Ababa tonight and tomorrow morning before flying out at 8.30am (Monday) to Lome.

President Museveni gives FUFA UGX 660M to prepare Cranes for game against Ghana

H.E. The President of the Republic of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended financial support of 660 million UGX to the preparations of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier away match against Ghana in Tamale scheduled for 7th October 2016.

This includes 3 months salary arrears to the Head coach of Uganda Cranes Milutin Sredojevic

President Museveni to honour Uganda Cranes players

The President of the Republic of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is due to honour the 2016 Uganda Cranes football team and other support staff on 9th October 2016 at Luuka District Headquarters.

‘We are in receipt of the invitation dated 30th September, 2016 signed off by Chancellor/Secretary, Presidential Awards Committee Businge S.T. Amooti which has a list of people to be honoured and was addressed to the Executive Director of Federation of Uganda Football Association’ said Ahmed Hussein-FUFA Communications Manager.

‘The Committee has requested FUFA to inform and organise the people on the list to be at the venue on that day’ added Hussein.

FIFA President Congratulates FUFA upon Uganda Cranes qualification for AFCON 2017 Finals

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has sent a congratulatory message to the President of FUFA Eng. Moses Magogo upon Uganda Cranes victory over Comoros that led to the country’s qualification to the 2017 AFCON finals in Gabon.

The top most head in world football wrote the message and signed it off dated 20th September, 2016.

Cranes edged Comoros 1-0 thanks to a Faruku Miya goal to end Uganda’s drought at the appearance of the continent’s soccer show piece that had eluded the country since 1978.

Here is the congratulatory message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino;

‘I would like to send you my heartfelt Congratulations on your qualification for the Africa Cup Of Nations 2017 after beating Comoro 1-0 on Sunday, 4 September 2016.

This is the first Uganda National team qualification for the AFCON since 1978 and it is certainly no fluke. It is the result of a long effort by you, the Uganda football community and thanks to the tireless government assistance.

After saying that, i simply encourage you to continue to develop football in Uganda and send you my assurances that we shall be beside you every step of the way.

With my best wishes for the future of Ugandan football’

Infantino’s message follows others from the National Council Of Sports, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Kyabazinga-Busoga Kingdom and former players of the Uganda Cranes.

Uganda Cranes will know their opponents for the 2017 AFCON Finals in the draw to be conducted on 19th October, 2016.

Uganda Cranes team to face Togo and Ghana in the international build up and FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier respectively has been released by the head coach, Milutin Sredojevic on Wednesday, 21st September 2016.

This was during the weekly press conference at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

Micho was flanked by the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, National Teams’ Officer Patrick Ntege and the FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

The coach congratulated the players and FUFA upon the historic qualification to the AFCON 2017 finals in Gabon.

He quickly called immediate preparations for rest of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that start with the Ghana away match.

I thank all stake holders who helped us achieve.

We need to the halt the celebrations and start preparations for the Togo and Ghana away games.

The Uganda Cranes will play Togo on 4th October 2016 in the international friendly match before the 2018 FIFA World Cup group E qualifier against Ghana that will be played in Tamale City.

The locally based players will start training on 1st October 2016 after the Azam Uganda Premier league matches on 30th September 2016.

Many of the foreign players will fly directly to Lome.

Press conference: Micho to announce Uganda Cranes squad for Togo and Ghana matches

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will host their weekly press conference on Wednesday, 21st September 2016 at FUFA House in Mengo, Kampala.

During the press conference, the Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin Sredojevic will announce the full squad set to travel for the Togo international build up and the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

FUFA Head of Communications, Ahmed Hussein confirms the development;

The Uganda Cranes head coach will address the media this Wednesday to reveal the team for the Togo and Ghana matches. At the same time, the travel arrangements, team preparation will also be revealed. The media is urged to keep time for the press briefing that will start at 10 a.m

2018 FIFA World CUp Russia: FUFA secures training camp for Uganda Cranes

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that the Uganda Cranes will hold a high profile training camp in Lome, Togo in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia match against Ghana on 7th October, 2016.

The training camp will culminate into an International Friendly to be played on 4th October in Lome against The Togolese National Football team.

Uganda Cranes will fly out to Ghana the following day ahead of the crunch tie to be played on Friday 7th October in Tamale.

‘All Uganda Cranes players summoned to the team will fly direct to Lome for the important training camp’ said FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

The Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will announce the squad on 21st September, 2016 at FUFA House during the weekly press conference.

‘FUFA has continued to show its commitment in organizing camps for the Uganda Cranes ahead of every international fixture which help players tune up for any game’ said Micho

Uganda is in the same group with Egypt, Ghana and Congo Brazzaville for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

NCS says FUFA is on the right track following Uganda Cranes qualification to 2017 AFCON Finals

The National Council of sports has assured FUFA for support following Uganda Cranes victory over Comoros that led to the qualification to the 2017 Nations Cup finals in Gabon.

The message was delivered through a letter signed by NCS General Secretary Nicholas Muramagi in which he was congratulating the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and the entire Uganda Cranes.

Part of the congratulatory message reds;

‘I wish to note that this heroic and memorable performance has come after a good strategic and protracted qualifier campaign, where Team Uganda won two critical away matches against Botswana and Comoros’

The message further reads;

‘This consistency in being victorious by our team is a clear testimony of the talent that abounds in the country and also demonstrates the fact that your Federation is on the right track to push Uganda to be among the top echelons of soccer on the continent and globally’

Muramagi also noted in the congratulatory letter that;

‘I wish to reassure you all that the Government of Uganda shall continue to support FUFA to ensure effective implementation of its programmes. Accordingly, i also wish to pledge our commitment to work with your Federation to ensure that we prepare the team adequately ahead of the Finals in Gabon’

FUFA STATEMENT ON UGANDA CRANES HEAD COACH
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) would like to respond to reports about the Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s unpaid dues by stating the following:
- FUFA greatly appreciates and recognises the immense contribution and extra efforts of our national team coach in helping Uganda qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 38 years.
- FUFA indeed owes Milutin Sredojevic unpaid salaries and shares his frustrations over the delay.
- During the costly AFCON 2017 qualification campaign, FUFA prioritised all the meagre resources at its disposal to facilitate requirements for the success of the team and campaign.
- In preparation for the final group D but key match against Comoros, over the last 2 months alone, coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has been paid three times and received all his bonus and allowances entitlements for the AFCON 2017 campaign just like the rest of the team members.
- FUFA is committed to ensuring all his salary arrears are cleared and we are confident this will be handled.
- Coach Micho’s unpaid dues are currently FUFA’s number one priority and the federation is doing everything in its means to raise the funds needed to clear the outstanding amount.
- FUFA and Micho have held meetings in regard to this matter.
- Finally, details of the ongoing contract between FUFA and Cranes coach remain confidential.

AFCON 2017 Qualification: FUFA Confirms thanksgiving prayers across the country

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has planned for thanksgiving prayers across the country after the successful qualification to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals since 1978.

The prayers according to the FUFA spokesman, Ahmed Hussein will start this Friday through to Saturday and end on Sunday cross all the religious denominations – Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Muslims, Born Agains and the Orthodox families.

We are thanking the Lord for granting our heartfelt prayers after holding prayers throughout the campaign.

FUFA remains a God fearing institution and we dedicate all our tasks into hands of the most merciful, most graceful

In Kampala, prayers start this Friday (9th September 2016) at the Wandegeya Mosque, National Mosque – Old Kampala, Ahmadiya Mosque in Wandegeya, Kibuli and many other Houses of worship for the muslim fraternity in Kampala and across the country.

I salute our gallant sons, the entire FUFA Executive, the Government of the Republic of Uganda and all stakeholders of Football in Uganda upon this historic milestone that we should all savor.
I particularly commend you for leading the Federation in revamping our football and specifically the success of the Cranes. This achievement is merited given your long and dedicated service to sports in Busoga and Uganda as a whole.

Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga commits to providing the necessary institutional support, to identify and develop the vast available sports talent that is required by our various National Teams, to ensure that our Country regularly excels at the continental and global sporting showpieces. I urge you to work with all stakeholders to provide the necessary environment and resource support such as the prioritization of sports within the school curriculum, establishment of robust sports’ development processes and programs, and the availability of the requisite infrastructure including maintaining public play grounds in our communities.

The success of the Uganda Cranes should inspire all of us, especially the youth. It is a clear manifestation that what appears to be a “glass ceiling” can be easily broken if we institute the necessary processes, and are purposeful and united. The triumph of the Cranes should therefore reinvigorate our dedication to the pursuit of excellence not just in sports but in all our life’s aspirations.

Uganda Cranes qualify to the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 38 years

AFCON QUALIFIERS (Group D Final Matches):

Uganda Cranes 1-0 Comoros

Burkina Faso 2-1 Botswana

Uganda Cranes made history by qualifying to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) come the year 2017 that will be hosted by Gabon.

This was the first qualification achieved since 1978 in Ghana.

In the final group D match played at the fully packed Mandela National Stadium, the Uganda Cranes won 1-0 thanks to Farouk Miya’s 36th minute goal set up by Moses Oloya.

In fact, the home side would have scored more than the successful goal had Joseph Benson Ochaya’s attempt not kissed the woodwork.

Team captain Geofrey Massa also had two missed chances with the on colour right back, Nicholas Wadada missing narrowly from close range.

First lady, Janet Kataha Museveni was the chief guest on the well attended evening. She was accompanied by the State Minister of Sports Hon. Charles Bakabulindi, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, Honanary FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa among other dignitaries from Central Government, Kingdoms, FUFA Delegates, current and former players and the fans at large.

In the other group D match, Burkina Faso scored a late goal at home against visiting Botswana to qualify alongside Uganda.

Prejuce Nakoulma put Burkina Faso ahead with an 18th minute strike.

Lesego Galenamothale converted a penalty nine minutes from full time but Banou Diawara won it late in stoppage time for the Stallions.

There was a post match press conference attended by the two countries captains and the coach Milutin Sredejovic.

Uganda Cranes captain Geofrey Massa appreciated everyone whose effort can not go unnoticed throughout the qualification campaigns.

Massa thanked the current and former players, media, sponsors, partners, FUFA administration and Government.

On the other hand, Micho lauded the effort of players and all stake holders in the football struggle.

The much publicized and well intentioned Project Cameroon 2019 is much alive and qualifying to Gabon 2017 is part of the agenda.
