    CHAN 2016 Qualifiers:

    17th October 2015 – Uganda Vs Sudan – Kampala, Uganda

    24th October 2015 –Sudan Vs Uganda – Khartoum, Sudan

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has released the budget totaling to U.shs 500M for the upcoming CHAN 2016 double header qualification match between the Uganda Cranes and Sudan.

    FUFA finance director, Decolas Kizza told the media on Wednesday that FUFA has already engaged the Government of Uganda to come for assistance.

    We thank Government of Uganda and His Excellency, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the timely financial assistance when Uganda was traveling to Comoros. For the Sudan two encounters, we need atleast 500M to plan for the two games.

    Uganda hosts Sudan first on 17th September 2015 before traveling away for the return leg on 24th October 2015 in Sudan.

    The winner over the two legs will qualify to CHAN finals in 2016 that will be hosted by Rwanda.

    Wednesday, 9th September 2015 – At FUFA House, Mengo – Kampala (10:00 a.m)

    The FUFA weekly press conference of Wednesday 9th September 2015 at the FUFA Headquarters in Mengo, Kampala shall be addressed by the Uganda Cranes coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.

    Uganda Cranes contingent returned on Tuesday night from Comoros where they picked a memorable 1-0 away victory from Tonny Mawejje’s lone strike on the day to top group D.

    The coach shall address issues on the national team’s status, the projected plans for CHAN 2016 qualifiers, the remaining AFCON 2017 qualification matches, World Cup 2018 Qualifiers, friendly matches, CECAFA 2015 and the Cranes Na-Mutima internal trips within the country

    The press conference commences at 10:00 a.m.

    Uganda – 71st (478 Points)

    Burkina Faso – 73rd (468 Points)

    Rwanda – 78th (426 Points)

    Sudan – 89th (377 Points)

    Kenya – 116th (268 Points)

    Botswana – 118th (266 Points)

    Burundi – 134th (218 Points)

    Tanzania – 140th (195 Points)

    Comoros – 190th (48 Points)

    Somalia – 202th (6 points)

    Uganda Cranes has improved by three places to 71st (with 478 points) in the latest FIFA/Coca Cola football rankings from the home of global football in Zurich, Switzerland.

    The Cranes are now 16th on the African continent, remaining number one in the entire CECAFA region.

    Uganda’s neighbors to the South West, Rwanda (due to play Ghana at Amahoro in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers on Saturday) have improved 13 places to 78th in the world.

    The other Uganda’s neighbors, Sudan are 89th , Kenya is 116th, Tanzania (140th ).

    Uganda AFCON 2017 Group D Opponents:

    Uganda’s AFCON 2017 qualification opponents Burkina Faso have slipped to 73rd, Botswana (118th) and Comoros are languishing in the 190th place.

    On the African scene, Algeria remains Africa’s top ranked team in 19th. Cote d’Ivoire follows on 21st, Ghana is 27th, Tunisia (33rd) and Senegal (38th).

    Latin American giants, Argentina lead the global footballing nations.
    Belgium, Germany, Colombia and Brazil seal the places for the best five countries out of the 208 FIFA member nations.

    The next rankings shall be released on 3rd October 2015.

    UGANDA CRANES REGIONAL TOURS:

    Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and the Uganda Cranes main sponsors, Airtel Uganda in conjunction with the other team’s partners Nile Breweries Limited plan to hold a joint countrywide tour campaign for the national team.

    The earlier communication of the press briefing on Thursday has been canceled and now the press briefing will be held next week at a date and venue yet to be confirmed.

    Any inconveniences caused are highly regrettable.

    FUFA Top Brass meets Prime Minister, Government assures continued support to football development

    An official visit by the FUFA top brass led by its President Eng. Moses Magogo, Executive member Rogers Byamukama and Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Rt Honorable Ruhakana Rugunda at his Office at the Uganda Parliament is set to yield results.

    Today’s visit, saw the FUFA contingent discuss with the Government business leader on matters concerning Ugandan football.

    The Rt Honorable reiterated the Government of Uganda’s full commitment and promised continued support to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in developing the Game of football and the National Team.

    The Government of Uganda has been extending a helping hand to Uganda Cranes in the past football campaigns with financial support while HE President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made a personal contribution well over Shs. 1bn towards the Cranes in the 2015 Nations cup campaign.

    The meeting comes at a time when FUFA is financially incapacitated putting in mind that three Nationalteam are taking part in various competitions-The Uganda Cranes-2017 AFCON Qualifiers, U-23 in the Africa U-23 Championship and the CHAN featuring in the African Nations championships.

    FIFA RANKINGS: Uganda Now Ranked 73rd

    Uganda Cranes is now 73rd on the latest Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Coca cola rankings.

    The rankings were released on 9th July 2015 from Zurich, the home of FIFA.

    Uganda is now 73rd with 467 points, a slip two places despite winning two games against Botswana (AFCON 2017 qualifier) and Tanzania (first leg CHAN 2016 qualifier).

    Uganda still remains the best ranked nation in the CECAFA region.

    Rwanda rose 16 places to 78th and Sudan rose 18 places to 90th.

    Tanzania, who lost to Uganda 4-1 in the CHAN 2016 qualifiers on aggregate have dropped 12 slots to number 139th.

    Meanwhile, Uganda’s 2017 AFCON qualifiers opponents Burkina Faso, Botswana and Comoros are ranked 72nd, 120th and 187th respectively.

    Algeria remains the highest ranked nation on the African continent in 19th .

    The top five countries in the world are; Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Colombia and Netherlands.

    The next FIFA Rankings will be released on 9th August 2015.

    NATIONAL TEAM: Cranes Safely Back from Malawi

    The Uganda national team, largely composed of Under 23 players safely arrived back from Malawi, from where they had gone to play in the international friendly game.

    Uganda lost the game 1-0 after falling to a late strike from striker Msowoya despite a brave display.

    All the traveling officials and players came back safely with South African Airways on flight SA 160 at around 7:00 p.m.

    The head coach, Milutin Sredojevic remains positive about the lessons learnt from this build up game.

    The match exposed the youngsters to a great experience of playing away from home. We contained the Malawians well earlier on. We have picked the positives and we shall work on the negatives before the up coming CAF U-23  Qualifier against Egypt

    The team will rest Wednesday before resuming training on Thursday as they start planning for a friendly against Tunisia before taking on Egypt on 18th July,2015 in Alexandria.

    The Uganda National team coach Sredojevic ‘Micho’ Milutin has heaped on praise his boys for the hard fight put up against The Malawi Flames in an international match played at Kamuzu stadium, in Blantyre on Monday evening.

    The Uganda team lost to Malawi Flames after conceding a late goal by striker Chiukepo Msowoya during added time of the second half.

    The match was a climax of celebrations to mark 51 years of Malawi’s Independence.

    The Uganda team arrived twenty minutes before the game at Blantyre Airport and proceeded direct to the stadium where a mammoth crowd was eagerly waiting including the Malawian President Peter Muthalika.

    ‘We had challenges with our travel but the boys have had such a nice display. They were harshly punished in the last moment of the game when they conceded a goal from a corner kick’ said Micho.

    ‘I am not happy with the results but excited with the team’s display after some unavoidable difficult circumstances’ added Micho

    The FUFA Technical team decided field the U-23 team in preparation for the tie against Egypt in the Africa U-23 Championship on 18th July in Alexandria.

    The Ugandan contingent will return home today at 7 pm aboard South Africa Airways.

    After Thursday’s training session at Nakivubo stadium, Uganda Cranes tactician Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic reduced his squad by two players but brought in replacements.

    Julius Ntambi and Sylvester Okello are the two players who will not be part of the planning process for Saturday’s encounter but Umar Kasumba and Tadeo Lwanga join the camp.

    ‘Training sessions have helped me analyse deeply about my players and out of eight senior players that don’t fall in the U-23 category-Julius Ntambi and Sylvester Okello had to be left out’ said Micho.

    ‘This will see the involvement of two U-23 players- Umar Kasumba and Tadeo Lwanga that are in contention for the trip to Malawi’ added Micho.

    ‘We are taking a completely U-23 team for the friendly against Malawi on 6th July, 2015 and prepare for the game against Egypt on 18th July. The game will also help the U-23 players to assess their fitness levels before the next competitive fixture’ further said Micho.

    The Cranes/U-23 players will train tomorrow at Vienna College in Namugongo at 4pm while Tanzania will use Nakivubo stadium at the same time.

    The Tanzania Football Federation has finally confirmed to FUFA their date and time of arrival in Uganda ahead of the CHAN 2016 Qualifier at Nakivubo Stadium.

    A contingent of 31 people (20 players and 11  officials) will leave Tanzania on 2 July 2015 from Dar es salaam.

    They are expected at Entebbe International Airport at around 9:30 pm aboard Rwanda Air.

    Tanzania has an advance team headed by Mr. Martin Chacha already in Kampala.

    Micho has also clarified that Farouk Miya hasn’t been dropped as reported in today’s Bukedde news paper.

    ‘It is not true that Miya has been dropped. I was very clear with my explanation to the members of the media yesterday about Miya’s current position and how we want to manage his playing and training time during this Holy month of Ramadan’ said Micho.

    He added further ‘We need to protect this young player who has been involved in every match of his club and country this year but that doesn’t mean he has been dropped or he is not important to us at this stage of the season’

    The triumphant Uganda Cranes team returned home early Monday morning from Zanzibar via Tanzania and Ethiopia with the Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 338.

    All the team players and officials returned safely from the successful trip of the first leg of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after overcoming the home team, Tanzania in a 3-0 humiliation.

    In Zanzibar at the Amman stadium, Uganda scored through Erisa Ssekisambu’s brace that was supplemented by a late Farouk Miya penalty.

    We expect to start training as soon as possible. We shall let the media know when the players are resuming training after a technical committee meeting

    The players now take a break before resuming preparations for the return leg that comes on July 4th 2015.

    Forwards, Erisa Ssekisambu (two goals) and Farouk Miya’s penalty over Tanzania at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar to give Uganda a 3 goal advantage in the opening leg of the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier played under floodlights on Saturday.

    Uganda scored the opening goal on 37 minutes through Ssekisambu before the same player netted the second on 65 minutes.

    Frank Kalanda, who had moments earlier replaced Robert Ssentongo won a penalty that Farouk Miya scored on 89 minutes to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead with the return leg coming on 4th July 2015 at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

    The match was handled by Rwandese FIFA referees.

    Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) referees from Rwanda will handle Saturday’s Tanzania Vs Uganda first leg of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) first leg at the Amman Stadium.

    CAF has confirmed Hudu Munyeme (center referee), Ambroise Hakizimana (first assistant), Justin Karangwa (second assistant) and Issa Kagabo (fourth official) all from Rwanda as the officials to handle the game.

    Nicholas Musonye from Kenya will be the match commissioner.

    Uganda is set to have a last training session at the Amman Stadium on Friday at the exact match day time (8 p.m) as mandated by the CAF match rules and regulations.
