  • Dominant Vipers SC defeat KCCA FC to Clinch Fourth Uganda Cup

Dominant Vipers SC defeat KCCA FC to Clinch Fourth Uganda Cup

Vipers SC crowned an exceptional season by defeating KCCA FC 2-0 to lift their fourth Stanbic Uganda Cup title at the newly inaugurated FUFA Stadium in Kadiba, Rubaga.

The final served as the perfect inauguration of one of Uganda’s newest football venues. And it was Vipers who rose to the occasion, showcasing their class with a performance that not only sealed the cup but also completed a domestic double—winning both the league and the Uganda Cup for the second time in their history, the first coming in the 2022-2023 season.

The Venoms struck early, setting the tone for the match. Defender Livingstone Mulondo opened the scoring in just the 5th minute, heading in from an Allan Okello corner kick. Despite KCCA’s early control of possession, it was Vipers who capitalized first.

KCCA had a chance to level in the 39th minute through Emmanuel Anyama, but he missed from close range. The match saw its share of intensity, with yellow cards issued to KCCA’s James Mubezi and Vipers duo Milton Karisa and Derrick Ndahiiro as tensions flared on both sides.

KCCA began the second half with a substitution Joel Sserunjogi replacing Musitafa Mujjuzi to bolster the midfield. But the shift did little to prevent Vipers from doubling their lead. In the 55th minute, Yunus Junior Sentamu pounced on a defensive mistake by Peter Magambo, smashing in a volley to make it 2-0.

KCCA responded with changes of their own, bringing on Derrick Nsibambi and Julius Poloto. Poloto added urgency with his set-piece deliveries, but the Vipers backline stood firm. Meanwhile, Abdul-Karim Watambala came close to a spectacular goal for Vipers with a powerful strike from 35 yards that narrowly missed the target.

As the match progressed, both coaches sought fresh legs to influence the final stretch. KCCA’s standout performer Arafat Usama made way for Etienne Katenga, while Umar Lutalo replaced Ashraf Mugume and later fired a shot off-target.

Vipers also rotated, subbing off Okello for Moses Waiswa and later bringing on Congolese forward Gusto Mulongo for Sentamu. Mulongo made an immediate impact, forcing a save with a long-range effort from 40 yards.

In stoppage time, Nicholas Wadada added a moment of flair with a slick wall pass that drew applause before being fouled. He was substituted for Grant Matisko moments before referee Shamirah Nabadda blew the final whistle.

Stanbic Uganda Cup: SC Villa, Vipers set for for quarterfinal clash as giants collide

A thrilling encounter between SC Villa and Vipers SC is set to light up the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals, with the draw producing some fascinating matchups as the tournament moves into its defining stage.

The draw, conducted at Kansai Plascon Head Offices in Industrial Area, Kampala on Monday by Plascon Uganda Managing Director Santosh Gumte has set the stage for an epic battle between two of the country’s football powerhouses. SC Villa, Uganda’s most successful club with nine Uganda Cup titles, will lock horns with three-time champions Vipers SC in what promises to be a feisty repeat of their recent league encounter. The Jogoos edged that match 1-0 thanks to a decisive strike from Charles Lwanga, a result that has only added more fuel to their growing rivalry.

According to FUFA Competitions Director, Hajjati Aisha Nalule, the quarterfinals will take place between April 18th and 22nd, 2025. Should matches end in a stalemate after 90 minutes, teams will battle through two 15-minute halves of extra time. If still level, the fate of the tie will be settled by penalty shootouts.

“Extra time of not more than 15 minutes per half will be played in the event of a draw at the end of regulation time. If there’s no winner after that, spot kicks will decide who advances,” she clarified.

Vipers and SC Villa both booked their quarterfinal berths in convincing fashion. The Venoms swept aside FUFA Big League outfit Blacks Power with minimal fuss, while Villa continued their impressive Cup form by edging Lugazi FC 1-0 away from home, their third consecutive away win in the tournament.

Meanwhile, cup holders Kitara FC face a daunting test against high-flying BUL FC in what is expected to be a fiercely contested fixture. Kitara had to dig deep to eliminate Gaddafi FC in the previous round, while BUL FC were ruthless in dispatching Total FC.

Bebe Cool to Conduct 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64 Draw

Renowned Ugandan musician Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool is set to oversee the draw for the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64 on Monday, January 6, 2025. The event will take place at Turaco Hall, Serena Hotel starting at 11:00 AM.

Bebe Cool, celebrated for his contributions to reggae and ragga music since his career’s inception in 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya has deep connections to Ugandan football. His father, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, a former politician and football visionary, led KCC (now KCCA FC) to victory in their inaugural CECAFA Club Championship 47 years ago. Bidandi Ssali also guided Uganda Cranes to the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals as team manager, leaving an indelible mark on Ugandan football history.

Nicknamed “Big Size” in the music industry, Bebe Cool is no stranger to football. As an ambassador for the Uganda Cranes, his passion for the sport continues through his son, Alpha Thierry Ssali, a talented winger for Express FC and a former Uganda Hippos player.

The Stanbic Uganda Cup, one of the country’s most prestigious football tournaments, has consistently brought together teams from across the nation. The draw will determine matchups for the Round of 64 as clubs vie for glory in this historic competition.

Bebe Cool’s involvement underscores the blend of music and sports in promoting national unity and excitement.
