The first game of the day was physical and JKT Queens had to come from a goal down to win 3-1.

Toepistar Situma fired BUJA Queens in the lead just eleven minutes after kickoff.

They had several chances and actually could have killed off the game at halftime lacked efficiency in front of goal.

The game eventually changed after recess and JKT Queens were dominant.

In the second semifinal, Vihiga Queens had to rue the numerous chances wasted especially in the first half.

Bertha Omita scored ten minutes into the second half but the Ethiopians were able to find a stoppage time equalizer through captain Loza Abera to send the game into extra time.

CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers: CBE, BUJA Queens complete semifinal puzzle

The group stage of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers successfully came to a climax on Thursday with two fixtures from Group A.

The games played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru confirmed the last two semifinalists.

CBE FC from Ethiopia and BUJA Queens FC from Burundi won their respective final group game to secure progress to the last four.

In the first game, CBE FC made light work of Yei Joint Stars FC from South Sudan, winning the game 4-0.

Ariet Odong and captain Loza Abera scored in the first half before Senayt Bogale and substitute Mesay Temsegen added a goal each in the second half.

The win meant, CBE FC finished top of Group A on ten points from four games.

BUJA Queens FC had to dig deep to edge resilient FAD FC from Djibouti. The game looked easy on paper but the latter put up a remarkable performance to frustrate the Burundi outfit.

It took 74 minutes for defender Ruth Ingosi to break the deadlock and fire BUJA Queens into the lead.

FAD FC however did not give up and found the equalizer, five minutes from time though Nadia Nour.

However, their delight lasted only three minutes before Teopistar Situma found the winner for BUJA Queens FC.

The win saw them take the second place with nine points, two above hosts Kampala Queens FC.

BUJA Queens FC and CBE FC therefore join Vihiga Queens FC and JKT Queens FC from Group A as the semifinalists.

JKT Queens from Tanzania topped Group A with nine points and will face BUJA Queens FC while Vihiga Queens FC who settled for second place will take on Group A leaders CBE FC.

The semifinal games will be played on Sunday while the final will be played on Wednesday next week.

Uganda U18 Women’s National Team settled for second place at CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship that came to an end on Friday at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 1-0 loss to Tanzania on the final day consequently meant the title went to the hosts with Uganda coming second.

Despite failure to clinch the trophy, head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi moves out of the tournament with his head high given the several positives registered.

“It is disappointing that we could not finish on a high. Our target was definitely to win the Championship,” he started.

“However, I am proud of the work we have done here. I’m grateful to the players who kept improving every other game.”

The coach also adds that the tournament has helped to inject more minutes into the legs of players ahead of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

“The main intention to play here was to prepare for the World Cup Qualifiers that will come later this year. I believe the players have benefited a lot and hopefully, we will continue to make progress.” He indicted.

It should be noted that the inaugural CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship had five teams namely Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Zanzibar competing in a round robin format.

The team is expected to return to the country on Sunday.

  • CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship: Uganda aims for glory as they face hosts Tanzania

CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship: Uganda aims for glory as they face hosts Tanzania

Uganda U18 Women’s National Team will be going for honours as they take on hosts Tanzania on the final day of the CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship.

The two nations come into Friday’s game level on points, having won all their three games played so far.

However, Uganda has a slight advantage with goal difference having scored eleven goals compared to Tanzania’s six.

Therefore, a draw can be enough to see Uganda over the line but coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi indicates his charges are going for all three points.

“We are not coming to fight for a point but three. We know what is at stake but all our focus is geared towards winning the final game.” He said.

Kiyingi believes either side has the ability to take the day but he is oozing with confidence that his troops will execute the work at hand.

“Tanzania is a good team and they will definitely have home support but I know my girls are focused and ready for the battle.”

Uganda opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia, defeated Zanzibar 3-0 in the second game before obliterating Burundi 7-0 in the penultimate game.

Uganda U18 Women National Team was in ruthless mood on Tuesday as they faced Burundi in their penultimate game of the ongoing CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship.

Uganda and Tanzania have won three games each and the final match on Friday where they face off will determine the winner.

Uganda has scored eleven goals at the tournament so far compared to Tanzania’s six.

Therefore, a draw against Tanzania on Friday will be enough to get Uganda over the line and clinch the Championship.

CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship: Uganda seek to keep perfect run intact against Burundi

Uganda U18 Women National Team will go into Tuesday’s game against Burundi seeking to keep their brilliant run so far.

The Junior team has registered two wins in as many games and victory against Burundi tomorrow will set up a title decider against hosts Tanzania in the final game.

It should be noted that Tanzania has won three games and their final game is against Uganda on Friday.

Therefore, the onus is Uganda to keep within the title path and head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi is well aware of the permutations.

“We have rested enough since we last played and this has given us enough time to work on the grey areas. Therefore, as we go into the game against Burundi, we hope for the best because victory gives us a chance to go into the final game against Tanzania with fate in our hands.” He said.

Kiyingi also states that they have tried to work on the mentality of the players so that they remain focused.

“Staying in one place for a longtime brings mental fatigue but we have tried to keep the players focused on our mission and they have so far responded positively.”

Uganda opened her campaign with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia before securing a 3-0 victory against Zanzibar.

With two games to play, the target for the team is to win the Championship and that means winning both games.

Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers: Crested Cranes edge Rwanda to storm second round

Uganda Women’s National Team, the Crested Cranes secured a hard fought win over Rwanda to storm the second round of the 2024 Paris Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers.

The team needed a goal in extra time to win 1-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday and thus advance to the next round 4-3 on aggregate.

It should be noted that the first leg played on Wednesday last week ended 3-3.

Despite the numerous chances created throughout the game, Uganda could not find the breakthrough.

Sandra Nabweteme, Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Fauzia Najjemba all got chances to fire Uganda into the lead but did not utilize the attempts at different intervals.

Assistant coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi made two changes from the team that played the first leg with goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro and Shamirah Nalugya replacing captain Ruth Aturo and Margret Kunihira respectively.

The first attempt at goal fell to Nabweteme in the 8th minute but the Rwandese goalkeeper was quick off her line to deny the former.

Najjemba too had her attempt from close range parried away by the goalkeeper.

At the start of the second half, the coach introduced Fazila Ikwaput in place of Hasifah Nassuna. There were further changes with Catherine Nagadya and Hadijah Nandago introduced in places of Nalugya and Nyinagahirwa.

In the 10th minute of extra time, Ikwaput fired Uganda into the lead with a low drive into the bottom left corner.

The win means Uganda advances to the second qualification round where they face Cameroon in October.

    First Round, First Leg
    Uganda 3-3 Rwanda

Uganda and Rwanda played out a thrilling three-all draw on Wednesday as the two sides faced off in the first leg of the first round of the 2024 Paris Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers.

In the game played at Kigali Pele Stadium, neither settle could secure maximum points, leaving the fate of the contest for the return leg.

Assistant coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi made two changes from the team that started against Tanzania in a friendly game last week.

Margaret Kunihira and Joan Nabirye started ahead of Catherine Nagadya and Shamirah Nalugya respectively.

Uganda made an impressive start and should have taken the lead as early as the sixth minute but Fauzia Najjemba failed to find the target left with just the goalkeeper.

It was Rwanda that broke the deadlock through Mukahirwa, capitalizing from a goal melee in the 33rd minute.

Shakirah Nyinagahirwa levelled matters at the stroke of halftime off a well taken ferocious strike that sent fans from either side cheering.

The first change for Uganda came just after recess with Kunihira paving way for Nalugya.

Five minutes into the second half, Najjemba was fouled inside the area and Hasifah Nassuna took the responsibility to slot home two minutes later.

In the 66th minute, Rwanda equalized through Libelle Nibagwira’s free kick.
