She Corporate earned a perfect start with a slim win over Olila High School as games in Group B of the 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League started on Monday.

The decisive moment arrived five minutes from the break with Namiro’s curling effort beating goalkeeper Eglas Ajumo.
The game was evenly balanced with either side creating chances but were both blunt on the day.
Grace Aluka who was making her debut for Olila High School nearly opened the scores with a ferocious strike outside the area but goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi who had moved off her line was quick enough to save.

In the second half, Olila looked the better side as they searched for the equaliser but did not have efficiency in the final third.
She Corporate lost right back Wilmer Nantumbwe through injury and her place was taken by Cissy Nantongo.
They also made further changes bringing on Winnie Nabbale and Janat Thungu for Nantege and Atim respectively.
Action resumes on Tuesday with Olila High School taking on Lady Doves while She Corporate will be up against UCU Lady Cardinals.

Forward Fazila Ikwaput was in top notch performance on Monday as action in group B of the FUFA Women Super League got underway at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
The 2017 Airtel-FUFA Female Player of the year took the show in her hands, scoring four goals in the game to send a signal.

Right from onset, Lady Doves looked the better side and created chance after chance with Ikwaput troubling them for pace.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 23rd minute with midfielder Lydia Nyandera finding the back net.

Isra’s goalkeeper Brenda Kasana made the clearance but it fell into the path of Nyandera who did no mistake to fire into an empty.
Ikwaput got several chances to double the lead but she was twice denied by the woodwork.
In the 35th minute, she finally got the onto the score sheet with a neat finish, thanks to Joweria Nagadya’s through ball.
In the second half, Lady Doves continued with their dominance and Ikwaput stretched their lead, scoring direct from the free kick.
She completed the hat trick in the 64th minute before putting the icing on the cake with another goal two minutes from fulltime.
Lady Doves will return to action on Tuesday against Olila High School.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC and Uganda Martyrs High School have secured slots into the playoffs of this year’s FUFA Women Super League from Group 1.
Games in group 1 climaxed on Saturday with two games and its Uganda Martyrs High School that sealed their slot to join Kawempe Muslim thanks to their 2-1 win over Tooro Queens.
Spencer Nakacwa and Anita Namata scored goals for the Lubaga based outfit to overcome Tooro Queens who had pulled back through Resty Kobusobozi.
The result meant Uganda Martyrs went level on points with Kawempe Muslim (9) and the two had a superior goal difference ahead of third placed Kampala Queens who also had the same points.
Kampala Queens had won their game against Makerere University coming from behind after Sharon Namatovu had given SHE MAK the lead.
Resty Nanziri and Fauzia Najjemba scored a goal apiece to guide Kampala Queens to victory.
Tooro Queens who had three points finished fourth while Makerere University ended bottom of the log with no point.
Action continues on Moday with Group 2. This has UCU Lady Cardinals, Lady Doves, Isra Soccer Academy, She Corporate and Olila High School.

Allen Nassazi scored the lone goal of the game, coming in the 19th minute and this eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.

The goal meant Nassazi took her scoring tally to three and she is currently the top scorer.
Despite missing three of their players, Kawempe Muslim held on to seal maximum points.
Striker Juliet Nalukenge and defenders Asia Nakibuuka and Stella Musubika were all not available for Friday’s game.
Makerere University started on the front foot and Rebecca Nakasato nearly scored inside the opening minute of the game but she arrived late and failed to tap home from Amina Nababi’s cross.

On the other hand, Kawempe got two chances in succession with Margaret Kunihira and Hadijja Nandago all missing.
In the 19th minute, Nassazi beat Makerere University defence for pace before firing a low drive into the right bottom corner.
The second half was largely full of half chances from either side amidst the scorching sunshine but Kawempe Muslim did just enough to earn all three points.
Kawempe Muslim is now top of the table with 9 points and will wait for results from tomorrow’s games.
Both Kampala Queens and Uganda Martyrs are now level on points but Kawempe Muslim has a superior goal difference of five.

Kampala Queens brightened their chances of qualifying to the playoffs of this year’s FUFA Women Super League after overcoming Tooro Queens on Friday at the FUFA Technical Centre.
Captain Fauzia Najjemba was inspirational on the day, scoring a brace with the second goal coming at the death of the game.
Tooro Queens opened the scores through Mary Kabuculezi with an easy finish inside the area in the 23rd minute.

Kampala Queens had the chance to level matters immediately but Najjemba at the mercy of the goalkeeper failed to find the target when Sophia Nakiyingi laid her up.
Najjemba however, paid for her missed effort, converting from the spot after Lillian Mutuuzo was brought down inside the box by defender Jamila Nabulime, four minutes from the break.

In the second half, Kampala Queens kept surging forward and got a few half chances but lacked calmness inside the area.
On the other hand, Tooro Queens also got several chances, beating the Kamapala Queens defence for pace but still failed to take them away.
Inside the third minute of added time, Najjemba took matters into her own hands to score the winner and send Kampala Queens to six points in three games.
Both Tooro Queens and Kampala Queens will return to action on Saturday with their final group 1 games coming against Uganda Martyrs High School and Makerere University respectively.

A late goal from midfielder Rukia Namubiru guided Kampala Queens to victory thus condemning Uganda Martyrs to their first loss.

Tooro Queens were reduced to ten players in the 78th minute when midfielder Resty Kobusobozi was sent.
She had earlier been booked in the first half and brought down Shakira Nyinagahirwa thus referee Habiba Naigaga sending her off.

Kawempe took the lead in the 18th minute when Nassazi lashed onto a long ball from Hadijja Nandago to slot past onrushing goalkeeper Gloria Namakula.

Four minutes later, Kawempe had the chance to double the lead but Margaret Kunihira who had been fouled in the area failed to convert from the spot.
As Kawempe Muslim kept dominating proceeding, Nassazi nearly found her second on the day but she rushed to shoot rather than commit into the box and her feeble shot was easily collected by the goalkeeper.

In a closely contested affair, Makerere University seemed an improved side from the previous game against Uganda Martyrs, creating several chances but were wasteful in the final third.

Equally Tooro Queens got chances to break the deadlock but lacked the cutting edge.
The first chance of the game fell to Joanita Ainembabazi in the 13th minute when Resty Kobusobozi’s defence splitting pass set her through on goal but she failed to control the ball.
Amina Nababi too had an effort at goal before the break but she was denied by the woodwork with goalkeeper Gloria Namakula already beaten.

Makerere University dominated proceedings in the second half but like it was the case in the opening stanza, they lacked efficiency.
Josephine Ndagire, Samali Nakamatte and Sharon Namatovu all had attempts at goal for the University side.
Nyakato came on in the 85th minute and scored the decisive goal six minutes later. She caught Makerere on the blind side and easily tapped home from Imelda Kasemire’s lay-up.
The results means Makerere have no point from two games while Tooro Queens now have three, same as Kawempe Muslim who lost 1-0 to Uganda Martyrs High School.

Kunihira opened the scores as early as the fourth minute when she found space inside the area to slot home.
Kampala Queens overcame the early nerves and grew in confidence as the game progressed. Rukia Namubiru, Fauzia Najjemba and Lillian Mutuuzo had attempts but all failed to find the target.

Sharon Naddunga nearly doubled the lead for Kawempe Muslim in the 16th minute but her low drive went a few inches wide.
A minute later, Juliet Nalukenge also got a chance but she shot direct at goalkeeper Joan Namusisi.
At the other end, Najjemba was fouled outside the area by skipper Aisha Nantongo but the resultant free kick taken by Namubiru was poor.

They were penalized for their wastefulness with Kawempe Muslim going the other end to score through midfielder Rhoda Nanziri.
Substitute Nassazi who replaced Naddunga in the 67th minute scored three minutes after coming on, heading home from Samalie Nakacwa’s corner kick delivery to stretch the lead.

The 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League officially got underway on Monday morning with the first game of the season pitting Uganda Martyrs High School against Makerere University in Group 1.
In a closely contested affair, Uganda Martyrs earned a hard-fought win thanks to Kevin Nakacwa’s goal from the spot in the second half.

The decisive moment came in the 70th minute when Stella Namisango fouled Anita Namata inside the box and referee Anna Akoyi pointed to the spot.
Nakacwa converted the resultant penalty and this eventually turned out to be the only goal of the game.
Uganda Martyrs started on the front foot making several inroads but they lacked effectiveness in the final third and most of their efforts were foiled by a resilient Makerere University backline.

As early as the 5th minute, Latifa Nakasi who was the top scorer last season with six goals had her effort sail over the goal area.

On the other hand, Makerere University too grow in confidence and had attempts at goal through Rebecca Nakasaato and Jemima Twesigye.
Makerere called for the first change ten minutes into the second half with Samali Nakamatte replacing Carol Anyango.

Women’s Football in Uganda will return for the first time after a year of no action due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The 2019/20 season was cancelled when the Government put a halt on sports activities in the country.
After 13 months of no action, the 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League will kick-start the resumption of Women’s Football with the season getting underway on Monday, 19th April at the FUFA Technical Centre.
The prevailing circumstances in regard to COVID-19 brought about changes in the playing format with the ten teams divided into two groups of five and all games played at one venue (FUFA Technical Centre).
Group 1 that has Kawempe Muslim Ladies, Uganda Martyrs High School WFC, Kampala Queens, Tooro Queens and Makerere University WFC will get the new season underway.
FUFA in partnership with National Broadcaster, UBC will televise the games live, the first of its kind in Women’s football in Uganda.
The new season will start with Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga taking on Makerere University (SHE MAK) while Kampala Queens will face record Champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies.
Uganda Martyrs High School coach Rogers Nkugwa is optimistic that his team will start on a positive note.
‘The players are ready and we have prepared them very well. Our target is to start with victory and that will give us momentum ahead of the next games.’ He said.
His counterpart, Fred Ndawula of Makerere University equally believes the result from the first game is important and wants hopes his charges can fight for a good outcome.
‘The first game in such a format is important. We want to start on a high and that can be a springboard to even better performances.’
Kawempe Muslim will be without head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi who is part of the National Teams scouting group and his assistant, Moses Nkata will be in the dugout.
Nkata is unfazed with the absence of his master and insists there will not be any effect.
‘We have been together for a long time with him (Kiyingi) and the great understanding we have over the years definitely makes us more of the same. Therefore, I’m sure the players will go out to make sure the team wins,’ Nkata stated.
Kampala Queens on the other hand also made changes in the technical team with Isma Mukiibi replacing Faridah Bulega.
Mukiibi will have the task of guiding the team to their first silverware but insists he will take one game at a time.
‘The new format is tricky and therefore we must think of one game at a time. The target is to the Championship playoffs first before we can think of the title.’
The top two teams in each group will advance to the Championship playoffs while the bottom placed teams after the groups stage will also be subjected to a playoff to determine the team that will be relegated.
The FUFA Electoral Committee has released provisional results of elections conducted over the weekend at the grassroots levels in all the FUFA 8 Football Regions.
The voting exercise started with the elections at the District Football Associations and will be followed by the Regional level before climaxing with election of FUFA President and the Executive by the General Assembly by 31st August 2021.
The Chairman FUFA Electoral Committee Mathias Bwire says that he is happy with the process so far and they on course with the roadmap released to football stakeholders.
The exercise over the weekend centred on; Election of District Chairpersons and appointment of Executive Committees, District SIGs (Players, Coaches and Referees) and District Delegates to Regional FA Assembles.
The 8 FUFA regions are; West Nile, Northern, North East, Eastern, Buganda, Kampala, Western and Kitara.
Crested Cranes striker and U17 Women’s National Football Team captain Juliet Nalukenge has been named in Goal.com Next Generation top ten wonder kids.
The list that has ten players that were born after 1st January 2002 placed the lethal striker in ninth position.
Nalukenge, a Senior six student at Kawempe Muslim SS expressed her delight about the award and hopes it will motivate her into a better player.

Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Nalukenge and the Uganda U17 Team were on the verge of qualifying for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
She was the top scorer in the Africa World Cup Qualifiers with five goals by the time the tournament was halted.
The 2019 Airtel FUFA Female Footballer was also the top scorer as Uganda won the 2019 COSAFA U17 Women’s Championship with 18 goals in 5 games.
FUFA has on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with Women Football Club officials and also give an update about the restart of both the FUFA Women Super League (Top tier league) and the FUFA Women Elite League (2nd Division).
The meeting held at Jevine Hotel in Lubaga saw Clubs and FUFA deliberate on a number of issues in regard to the various competitions on how they can resume bearing in mind the prevailing circumstances of COVID-19.

FUFA Deputy CEO-Football, Decolas Kizza who represented FUFA 2nd Vice President, Darius Mugoye as the guest of honour at the function lauded officials for sustaining teams amidst the challenging economic environment.
“As FUFA, we extend our sincere appreciation to clubs and owners for staying afloat despite going almost a year without any engagements. We do not take this for granted and we laud you for promoting the game of football,” he said in his opening remarks.

“The purpose of this meeting is to see how competitions resume but bearing in mind that the principle of protecting health and wellbeing of everyone remains paramount as guided by FIFA. We have registered for International engagements for our national teams and therefore, to have players who are active domestically is important.
FUFA has registered for 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers, U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers and U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Ahead of the resumption of the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League, Ivan Kintu Bayige the FUFA Club Licensing Mananger confirmed that both licensing of clubs and the FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda will be effected prior to the start of the season.

“As a requirement prior to the start of every season, FUFA must carry out Club Licensing and FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda as tools to help us attain professionalism. We are aware of the challenges especially in these COVID-19 times and some regulations have been loosened abit.” He said.

Infrastructure
Legal
Some of the minimum requirements that must be adhered to both by teams in the first and second division include;
Sporting
Each Club must have a certified coach. For the FUFA Women Super League, the minimum is CAF C and must be contracted while any grade will work for the FUFA Women Elite League.
A club is mandated to have an assistant coach. For this season, he/she may be contracted or not.
Clubs both in the FUFA Women Super League and the FUFA Women Elite League must have a medical officer.
Clubs in the FUFA Women Super League will be required to have a minimum of five players who are contracted.
Administration and Personnel
Clubs in the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League must have CEOs. In the top division, CEOs must be contracted.
Finance
Every Club will be required to have a finance officer who will monitor the club incomes and expenditure and also help in budgeting of clubs.
A marketing and Communication officer will also be a requirement for every club acros the two leagues.
Infrastructure
It is a must for every club in the FUFA Women Super League to have a physical address(office) that is open regularly.
Clubs will also be required to have a match day field and a training ground.
Legal
Clubs as a requirement must declare their ownership to FUFA.
Compliance to FUFA regulations is also a must for clubs to participate.
Clubs will also be required to show their constitutions prior to the start of the season.
The FUFA Clubs Pro Agenda on the other hand covers 11 areas and this will be done per club a few days to the start of the new season.

Update on 2021 Season
FUFA Competitions Director, Hajatti, Aisha Nalule confirmed that the new season has been given a greenlight to resume after a year without action.
However, due to the prevailing circumstances in regard to COVID-19, there have been changes in the playing format.
“The FUFA Executive Meeting gae us the greenlight to resume Women Football competitions but within the guidelines of COVID-19. Therefore, there will be changes in the playing format with teams converging in one place unlike the home and away arrangement we have had in the past.” She said.

Both the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League will be played in a tournament format.
FUFA Women Super League
The FUFA Women Super League kick-off date has been set for 11th April 2021 at FUFA Technical Centre.
The 10 teams have been divided into two groups of five with the top two in each advancing to the Championship playoffs.

FUFA Women Elite League
The FUFA Women Elite League League will be divided into four groups each of four teams with the leaders at the end of a round-robin qualifying to the Championship playoffs and determining the teams that will be promoted to the FUFA Women Super League.

The FUFA Women Elite League is expected to kick-off on 2nd May 2021.
FUFA will cater for accommodation, feeding and testing costs while the teams are at FUFA Technical Centre.
Each team will be allocated 20 slots, of which a minimum of 16 must be players while one of the officials must be a female.
Only one group will be accommodated at the FUFA Technical Centre at a time and will leave once their games are finished to create space for another team.
Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) has donated trophies and balls to FUFA regions across the country.
This happened during the International Women’s Day at FUFA Special Interest Group offices in Lungujja as special support to women football development for Regional Football Associations (RFA).
Each club received two balls and the distribution was done through their Uganda Women Football delegates to the Region Football Associations.
John Chrizestom Kalibala, the FUFA Executive member who represented the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo noted that the federation has decided to empower grass root women football through Regional Football Associations both financially and logistically.

This is because football can only be developed from the grassroots. He asked the delegate to start identifying how the regional league will kick off during this pandemic era.
Chairperson of Uganda Women Football Association Margret Kubingi applauded FUFA for the gesture as the exercise empowers them to improve football development in line with FUFA’s Vision to be the number one football Nation in Africa on and off the field.

‘The distribution of these trophies and balls is timely for regions to start preparations for the new season. Some of the regions here did not even have a ball to train with for the new season. We thank FUFA for this great gesture towards football development. This support will really make a difference’ remarked Kubingi.
Ayub Khalifan stresses a point
Owk .Florence Nkulubo agreed with colleagues that many region football competitions are excited with the donation Uganda Women Football Association has made.
‘The regions now see returns of their contribution to Women football activities. Instead of restraining the little resources looking for competition trophies and buying your own balls to play with, it is a way of FUFA paying back’ noted Kitara Region women foot ball delegate Diana Kaboha.
The FUFA Executive has authorised the kickoff of the FUFA 2nd Division League (StarTimes FUFA Big League), FUFA Women Super League, FUFA Women Elite League, the Stanbic Uganda Cup and The FUFA Drum.
The communication is in a circular No. 1128 dated, FUFA/C/01/21 and signed off by the FUFA Deputy CEO- Football Kiiza Decolas Hantali.
The circular reads;
In compliance with the Government of Uganda directives and guidelines on COVID-19 pandemic, the CAF & FIFA COVID-19 protocols, and the FUFA COVID-19 Regulations, FUFA will issue comprehensive guidelines to be adhered to by the respective competitions entities to safeguard the health of all the stakeholders involved.
The FUFA Competitions Directorate and the FUFA Drum Committee will soon release the schedule of events and formats to be followed during the respective Competitions.
FUFA wishes to call upon all stakeholders to understand the sporting spirit behind the delayed kick-off of these competitions and appreciate any format changes that may be suggested in this regard.
Meanwhile the FUFA Executive will guide on other competitions as the Covid 19 situation improves.
