Sandra Nabweteme seems to be back to her best as she netted a hat-trick for defending champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School Women FC against Muteesa Royals in the FUFA Women Elite match played at Kawempe sports ground. Nabweteme has now scored 20 goals in the league this season.
Kawempe won the match convincingly with a 5-0 score over their opponents on Sunday evening to move above Gafford Ladies in the Victoria group. Nabweteme opened the scores on nine minutes from a penalty spot before she added two more on 70 and 80 minutes.
Hasifa Nassuuna, another star player for the League champions got her name on the score sheet twice to take her tally to 16 this season. The deadly duo also netted in their team’s midweek 3-0 victory over Gadaffi Integrated.
Other matches played over the weekend;
Buikwe She Red Stars beat Eastern Heroes 1-0 with goal scored by Annet Nakimbugwe-Hasifah Nassuuna’s mother.
London College 2-0 Eastern Heroes. Asia Nakibuuka motivated by a financial pledge of 500,000/- (Five Hundred Thousand shillings) fulfilled by FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo for her excellent show during the Mama Becca Cup netted one of the goals. Jeniffer Mirembe got the other for the home side.
Riness vs Devine and Wakiso Hill vs Devine were not played. (Devine never showed up.The League committee will await referee’s reports to take any decision).
Kawempe’s deadliest trio Sandra Nabweteme, Hasifah Nassuuna and Namuddu Viola were all on target as the defending champions defeated rivals Gaddafi Integrated in the FUFA Women Elite match played in Kanyanya on Wednesday afternoon.
The other league match played today saw last season’s runners up Buikwe She Red Stars also picked up a 3-0 win over Riness in Buikwe. Nkimbugwe Annet, Nampijja Hadijah and Babirye Winnie netted the goals for Buikwe.
A female participant Faith Nahurira from Kanungu has enrolled for her first FUFA coaching badge in Mbarara. FUFA together with the Western Region Football Association have undertaken the initiative to kick start the beginners’ coaching course in this part of the country.
FUFA Instructor Jackson Nyiima is conducting the five day course that started on Monday and ends on Friday at Global High School in Mbarara.
Who is Nahurira?
Nahurira hails from a remote area called Kambuga in Kanungu district but has football club called Unique Girls found in Ingime village Kabale.
She has already tested the beauty of being a champion as a ‘coach’. With Unique Girls FC, she let the club to a glorious moment when they won the Professor Nuwagaba Augustus Football tournament just before the National General elections were held early this year.
‘I am happy that FUFA has organised this course for us. Our region has also done a good job to bring this course much closer to people like me’ says Nahurira.
Nahurira is the only female participant in a class of 76.

A centre back during her playing days at Kabale University, the Diploma holder in Records Management has big dreams in football.
‘I want to be a coach or referee but this course will help me take a good decision in the near future’ added Nahurira.
She travels twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays from her village in Kambuga, Kanungu to Kabale. That journey covers aboout a combined figure of 200Kms to and fro on the mentioned days.
Aged 24, Nahurira has high hopes in football but is crying out for support.
‘I lack training equipment for myself and even the girls’ team in Kabale’ voiced Nahurira.

She adds that; ‘My tactics will definitely change at the end of this course. There will be a different approach to our game plan’ boasted Nahurira while talking to www.fifa.co.ug
Nyiima is full of praise about the female coach.
‘She is very eager to learn. This course will help her alot in how she approaches tactical matters on and off the pitch’
He adds that;
‘I am impressed with the turn up. This is wonderful for the development of the game in the Western region’ says Nyiima who is also the FUFA Education officer

The course has attracted participants from the districts of Ibanda, Mbarara, Kanungu, Kisoro, Sheema, Kabale, Bushenyi and Rukungiri.
The course will climax with examinations and whoever passes qualifies for the FUFA Beginners’ Coaching Certificate.
The course was officially opened by Western Region Football Association Executive member Moses Kajubi who hailed FUFA for supporting football in the region.

Falone Nahimana continued with her rich vein in form as she scored two goals on Saturday before completing the weekend with a superb hat-trick against Olira FC.
On Saturday Gafford Ladies conceded three quick fire goals against Ajax Queens but Nahimana helped her club claw back in the game and salvage a point in the 3-3 draw.

Gafford Ladies returned to action the following day but with a lot of caution from the previous evening. This time, they won convincingly against Olira whom they beat 4-1 thanks to a treble by Nahimana and Kyoyita Mary getting the other goal. Nahimana now has 14 goals while Kawempe’s Sandra Nabweteme is on 16.

The thrilling, lively, educative and ever interesting Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Live Your Goals girls football programme has been officially launched in the Eastern region at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Friday.
The launch follows the earlier launch in Kampala region that took place in the year, 2015.

The chief guest at the function, Abraham Kawuka (Mbale Municipal Sports Officer) encouraged the young girls to take upon the football sport, showering special praise to FIFA and FUFA for choosing Mbale after Kampala to host this event.
According to Muwanguzi, the FIFA Live Your Goals programme will circulate to all corners of Uganda in a bid to help scout and develop talent countrywide.

Sandra Nabweteme looked sharp in-front of goal but could not help champions Kawempe from taking maximum points off Gafford Ladies in the FUFA Women Elite League match played at Kawempe Muslim secondary school’s sports ground. Kawempe drew 2-2 with Gafford Ladies.
The rivalry between the two teams is growing each passing day since the inception of the women’s top flight league in Uganda. Only Gafford has managed to beat Kawempe Muskim Secondary school women FC in the league.
On Sunday it was a matter of revenge on the minds of Kawempe players but they fell to an early goal by Falone Nahimana the tormentor of the same opponents in the first round fixture in Kyebando.
Sandra Nabweteme-the reigning FUFA Women Footballer of the year hit back with two goals-one from the penalty spot and the other from a direct free kick and went through the net. Gafford Ladies players and their technical team protested the goal. However play resumed and Gafford looked composed in the final part of the match and their efforts were rewarded. They got a penalty which they converted beautifully through Annik Sophie for the match to end 2-2.
In Soroti, visiting side She Corporates won 3-0 against Eastern Heroes. Cissy Nalubega netted a brace. The other match between She Corporates and Devine FC wasn’t played as the home team failed to show up. she Corporates was supposed to play two games in Soroti over the weekend.

“We thank all the participating teams for respecting the good work of Mama Becca who was a good advocate of women football in Uganda. Let us continue with the committed play as we continue to develop women’s football” Mugoye urged.
The tournament, which has been held since 2009 in memory of Becca Kazibwe, a departed heroine in women football development in the country was played over Saturday and Sunday.
Unlike the previous editions, this year’s event had district qualifiers for the primary schools.

Celebrating the good deeds of someone who has done something valuable in society is one of the most treasured aspect of humanity.
Such was the mood at Old Kampala secondary school play ground when the 2016 edition of the Mama Becca women football tournament kicked off on Saturday morning.
A lot of young talents in women football continue to be unearthed as the existing ones thrive amidst all conditions.
Like the previous editions, the Mama Becca women football tournament is played under two categories – open and primary.
FUFA Women Football Development officer, Hadijah Namuyanja is already impressed by the general turn up and quality of the game being exhibited.

“There is a lot of potential. Women football has come of age. This year’s quality has improved especially in the primary catergory because we had district qualifiers first. So, the teams that made it at the main tournament have been of class” Namuyanja, who is christened ‘Lady Mouriouh’ notes.
The opening day on Saturday was also attended by FUFA Executive committee members, Agnes Mugena and Chris Kaliabala, FUFA Technical Director, Asuman Lubowa, FUFA Women football delegate, FUFA Women football development officer, Hadijah Namuyanja, Ayub Khalifa, Vice Chairperson FUFA Referees’ Sub Committee, Catherine Adipo, Annet Nakamanya from State House, Paul Ssali, among others.

The final tournament for Mama Becca women cup shall run on the 9th and 10th April 2016 at Old Kampala S.S play ground.
According to the FUFA Women football development officer, Hadijah ‘Lady Mourinho’ Namuyanja, the tournament will have the open and schools’ catergories. Under the schools, there will be primary and secondary schools.
The district qualifiers for the primary schools’ catergory were completed last month.
Mama Becca (Becca Kazibwe) was a strong advocate of women football in Uganda. She was also a staunch fan of Express Football Club.

Hosts, Masaka secondary school won two football titles as the 2016 Uganda Muslim Solidarity Association (UMEA) games ended on Easter Sunday at Masaka recreational stadium.
Masaka S.S retained the boys’ title and won the inaugural edition of girls’ football.
In the boy’s final, Masaka defeated Welden School from Mbarara with winger Abdulnoor Lukwata scoring five minutes to the game death.

For the first time, girls’ football was played at the UMEA games.
Masaka S.S edged Kakungulu Memorial school 1-0 with midfielder, Catherine Nakiridde scoring a wonder goal with the left foot from over 45 yards.
‘It is good that we have started girls’ football. The UMEA games are an avenue of spotting talent from the grassroots’ Chairman of the local organizing committee, Hajji Twahil Kitezeela noted.

Ssempijja was the long serving chairman of Masaka Local Council Football club.
He handed over the prizes to the different winners.
Ssempijja used the plat form to appreciate the organizers of this tournament and assured Government will assist in the development of sports at grassroot levels.
A record 1500 students participated in the four day’s event.
FUFA donated 10 playing footballs, NIC provided the medical insurance cover and Pepsi quenched the thirst of all the participants as well as providing tents and plastic chairs used.
FUFA also provided the match referees for all the boys and girls’ football matched.

To avoid undue disruptions due to Uganda Cranes’ engagements in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has pushed ahead the Mama Becca women football tournament to the 8th and 9th April 2016.
FUFA Spokesperson, Ahmed Hussein confirmed the postponement on Wednesday during the weekly press conference.
After we held the Mama Becca qualifiers (for the primary schools in eight districts), we were supposed to have the main tournament this coming weekend.
But, because of the busy schedule that involves Uganda Cranes double header against Burkina Faso away and at Namboole on the 29th March 2016, we have pushed the Mama Becca cup to give it all the due attention and respect Mama Becca Kazibwe, an ardent of football fan and women football in particular deserves.
The tournament will run for two days with teams in the Primary section, secondary catergory and clubs at Old Kampala Secondary school play ground in Kampala central.

The preparations for a successful Mama Becca women’s football tournament are in a high gear.
FUFA Women football officer, Hadijah ‘Lady Mouriouh’ Namuyanja told the media during the Wednesday Press conference that FUFA has already planned for the district qualifiers.

‘The district qualifiers will be played on Friday, 18th March 2016. The top three teams will qualify to play at the 2016 Mama Becca Cup. FUFA has already bought all the trophies that will be awarded to the various winners. Each region will get 20 footballs’ Namuyanja said.
District qualifiers will be held in Entebbe, Jinja, Iganga, Kawempe, Kampala, Rubaga, Makindye and Nakawa.
The tournament finals will be played on Saturday, 27th March 2016.

Burundians Uwimana Aniella and Falone Nahimana scored a goal each for home Gafford Ladies FC who beat reigning league champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School FC 2-1 at Cleveland College in Kyebando.
Uwimana scored a goal in the first half with a header off a corner kick which keeper Ruth Aturo failed to contain. Nahimana netted off a rebound from an initial failed penalty attempt she had taken. Gafford Ladies now on 16 points in the Victoria group remain unbeaten at home since the inception of the league in May 2015. This is the 2nd edition of the league. Kawempe are on 15 points from 6 games played so far.

Burundian import Anniela Uwimana scored the only goal of the match on Sunday against Western United as Gaffrod remained unbeaten in the FUFA Women Elite league. The match was played at Cleveland College, in Kyebando along Northern bypass.
Gafford have now won four out of five matches this season. Gafford’s match results so far have seen them beat Olira 6-0, She MAK 3-0, Ajax Queens 1-0, Western United 1-0. The other match in which they dropped points saw them draw 0-0 with Mutesa I University.
Defending champions Kawempe Muslim have won all their opening four games of the season.

When the 2016 Uganda Muslim solidarity games take center stage in Masaka come the month of March, there will surely be excitement about the addition of women football on the games list.
Masaka Secondary School will host this year’s games as confirmed by the Chairman of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Hajj Twahil Kiteezaala who also revealed that the games will run from 24th to 28th March.
The road to UMEA Solidarity Games 2016 started at the closing ceremony of the 3rd edition in Kasawo where Masaka Secondary School was awarded the hosting rights. We are now deep into activities leading to 2016 climax
Only Muslim founded Secondary Schools under their umbrella association UMEA take part in these Solidarity Games.
More than 30 schools are expected to take part in this year’s edition and will tussle it out in a variety of games which include Football (boys & girls, netball (Girls) among other sporting disciplines like handball (Boys & Girls) plus Volleyball (Boys & Girls).
For the first time in the history of the games, women football will be played.
Last year, the games were held by Kasawo S.S.
Whereas Masaka S.S won the football title, Kibuli S.S were the overall champions when all the disciplines were combined.
During the previous edition, FUFA’s generous hands witnessed the official handing over of over 30 footballs used at the tournament.
City Tyres Limited bought all the trophies and awards given to the exceling individuals as the refreshments were well catered for by Crown Beverages Limited under the Pepsi and Mirinda brands.
The other partner was Rwenzori mineral water.
The UMEA Games is yet another fertile ground that FUFA eagerly looks to as far as unearthing new talents is concerned.
