Match officials for the double header between Uganda and South Sudan in the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations have been named.
Uganda will face neighbours South Sudan next month on match day three and four with the first leg slated for 28th March at Mandela Nation Stadium.
The return leg will come three days at El- Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, Sudan.
Uganda is in group B alongside Burkina Faso, Malawi and South Sudan.
The Uganda Cranes began the campaign with a goalless draw away to Burkina Faso before defeating Malawi 2-0 at Mandela National Stadium with goals from Emmanuel Okwi and Fahad Bayo.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the dates and fixtures for the CHAN Mini Invitational tournament.
FUFA confirmed on Thursday that Uganda will host a tri-nations tournament. This is aimed at helping the Uganda Cranes to prepare well ahead of the 2020 Championship of African Nations.
The tournament will be held at Mandela National Stadium between 17th – 21st March 2020 with all games expected to kickoff at 4PM.
Besides Uganda, the other countries that will feature in the above tournament include Zambia and Mali.
Coach McKinstry summoned a provisional team of 34 players that will enter camp on Sunday, 1st March 2020.
He believes the tournament will give Uganda good test before the final tournament in Cameroon.
“I believe this tournament will help us to gauge our standards. We hope to gain a lot from the games against Mali and Zambia. Mali is one of the teams with a good squad, they have hugely invested in youth football. Zambia is another good team and the fact that they are under coach Milutin Sredojevic, they will definitely give us a good test.” He said.
Training will officially start on Monday, 2nd March 2020 at GEMS Cambridge International School in Butabika.
Uganda is in group C alongside Rwanda, Morocco and Togo.

Uganda U17 Girls’ National team head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has named the final squad that will travel to Tanzania for the first leg of the second round of the 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The coach named a final team of 18 players comprised of two goalkeepers, seven defenders, four midfielders and five forwards.
The team will depart Entebbe Airport on Friday afternoon, aboard Uganda Airlines.
Tanzania will host the first leg on Sunday, 1st March in Dar es Salaam before a return leg in Kampala in two weeks’ time.
Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, the national U17 women football team head coach remains positive ahead of a crucial away fixture against East African neighbours Tanzania slated for this coming weekend in Dar es salaam.
Ayub is relishing his charges chances of picking a good result away from home despite theabsence of some key members of the squad.
Uganda takes on Tanzania in the first leg of the second round of the FIFA U17 Women World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday and will be without defender Stella Musubika and midfielder Kevin Nakacwa who are sidelined by knee and thigh injuries respectively.
Previously when the 2 sides met in the CECAFA U17 women championship late last year in Njeru-Uganda, they laboured to a 1-1 draw.

Ayub feels having the 2 in the squad would have been a big boost but maintains that other members of the team will be able to do the job.
‘We have had very good preparations for the past two weeks equipping the girls with the tactics and knowledge we believe will help us do the job. We will definitely miss the 2 players but again have trust in players available and we have prepared to fill the gaps left by the 2 injured players. We have played a couple of practice matches to fine tune the different departments and can confidently say our striking and midfield departments are more than ready for the task at hand. In the defence we still have a few things to iron out and these also by Sunday we hope to have mastered them.’ Ayub stated.
The U17 team played to a goalless draw in their 4th and final practice match played against a Kampala Select side at Star Times stadium.
The team is set to fly out of the country on Friday afternoon to continue with final preparations ahead of the Sunday duel.
Uganda Cranes head coach Johnathan McKinstry has named a provisional team of 34 players to start preparations for the Total 2020 Championship of African Nations (Chan) Tournament.
Flanked by the FUFA Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein, McKinstry also released the detailed training programme that will involve a three nation tournament (Mali and Zambia have already confirmed).
This tournament will take place 17th -21st March 2020 in Kampala.

Virtually three thirds of the team that won the 2020 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala has been maintained.
“There is a balance in the team. We have defensive resilience and options in attack. We can do better than at the previous Chan tournament. We have enough fire power in the squad. We want to do better. The target is first to move beyond group stages then, who knows we shall progress beyond. We have planned a three nation trial tournament in late March 2020 where already Mali and Zambia have confirmed” McKinstry stated.
The team training sessions will be conducted at GEMS Cambridge School in Butabika.
The team will assemble on 1st March 2020.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has made a directive to schools across the country to employ only qualified coaches to manage school football teams.
This is a strategy aimed at developing football right from the grassroots and the fact that majority of the young players are school-going students, the coaches that handle them must be qualified.
“FUFA continues to commit and drive its efforts towards its mission of developing, promoting and protecting football for all.” Reads part of the letter issued to schools across the country.

“The FUFA Executive Committee has directed that all schools should employ qualified football coaches to manage school teams in order to enable FUFA achieve its mission and develop a football philosophy that cuts across all National Teams.”
The directive will start working this year and thus the coaches that manage schools must have at least FUFA minimum coaching qualifications.
“It is therefore a requirement that effective this season, all schools that compete at both local and International levels employ coaches having at least FUFA minimum coaching standards.”
For Primary and Secondary schools, the coaches employed should have CAF D as a minimum requirement while Universities must employ coaches with a minimum of CAF C.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has revealed that there will be a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign attached to the 46th Stanbic Uganda Cup edition.
Like it has been the case in the last four years, the 2020 edition of the coveted annual knockout tournament will not be different.
FUFA Events Manager, Leila Nankya officially announced that the CSR drive for this year will be aimed at supporting the needy.
“Football is a game that unites us all regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs or status and as FUFA, we believe we can make a positive change in the society where we live. I, therefore, take this opportunity to announce that we shall have a CSR activity attached to this year’s edition.” said Nankya during the round of 16 draws held on Wednesday at FUFA House, Mengo.

“We call upon footballers to embrace this campaign like they have done in the last years. We have started collecting clothes and any other items that we shall give out to a school and hospital prior to the final. FUFA House and Stanbic Bank branches are the collection centres.”
It should be noted that the recipients of the items collected must be from the region that hosts the Stanbic Uganda Cup final. FUFA is yet to announce the region that will host this year’s final.

The round of 16 draw for the 46th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup was successfully held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Headquarters in Mengo, Kampala.
FUFA Competitions Director Hajjati Aisha Nalule was joined by the Stanbic Bank Head of Agency Banking Ronald Muganzi, former Uganda Cranes winger Obadiah Ssemakula and FUFA Events manager Leila Nankya.
Nalule further hinted on the competition rules at this stage.
“The yellow cards at this only serve in the Stanbic Uganda Cup competition. All clubs are encouraged to use green pitches at this level. The visiting team is entitled to 30 percent, FUFA has 20 percent and home team takes the lion’s share (50 percent)” Hajjati Aisha stated.

Ronald Muganzi, the Stanbic Bank Head of Agency Banking further expressed the bank’s commitment towards supporting the tournament.
Muganzi also reechoed the development of the Stanbic Uganda Cup tournament to the country’s football pool.
“I am very happy to here on behalf of Stanbic Bank. We have keenly followed the Stanbic Uganda especially in the press through the Television, new media and newspapers. The tournament has generated a lot of interest. The minnows have done surprises. As a bank, we are proud to be part of the tournament which has enabled talent exposure and development of the economy.” Muganzi noted.

Retired Uganda Cranes player Obadiah Ssemakula, 62, was present to conduct the draw.
Ssemakula, winner of the tournament in 1971 hinted on the significance of the tournament that is played concurrently with the main Star Times Uganda Premier League.
“The Stanbic Uganda Cup is a very great tournament. It has given chance to the players to get playing time that they would not get in the main league since our days. Players of today should also utilize this opportunity” Ssemakula remarked.

Meanwhile, FUFA officially launched the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive that is attached to this tournament.

Speaking to the media at the launch, Leila Nankya, the FUFA Events manager called upon the general public to donate generously towards the drive.
“Since 2016, FUFA has attached a CSR cause to the Stanbic Uganda Cup where several items should be donated generously for the vulnerable group of people, Please respond to help us impact on the society through football.” Nankya stated.
In the draws proper Kyetume hosts Maroons at the Mighty Arena, Jinja. Kiboga Young will play Proline in Mbale Municipal Stadium.

FUFA Women’s Cup holders Makerere University began their title defense on a bright note after overcoming Amuria High School at the round of 32.
The University side won 2-0 on the road with goals coming from Rebecca Nakasato and Josephine Nandagire.
Despite missing skipper Fauzia Najjemba who is away on duty with the Uganda U17 National team, Kampala Queens were able to dispatch She Maroons FC in Luzira.

FUFA through the Club Licensing Committee has approved Mutesa II Stadium ready to host league games after a thorough inspection on Saturday 22nd February.
FUFA Club Licensing Manager Ivan Kintu Bayige made the statement immediately after inspection together with his committee that was also accompanied by the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson together with the UEFA Pitch and Maintenance expert Philip Fifield.

The inspection took practical testing of the grass, the soil at the pitch together with the drainage system, fortunately, the former were fully worked upon during the time of the ban.
‘We have made an inspection on the Stadium and a lot has been worked upon. There is a great improvement and we have found out that the ground is ready to host league games. The pitch is all green. Clubs are now free to host their games in the Stadium.’ Said Kintu Bayige.
Apparently, the stadium is the home ground for Express FC and the club has been using Kavumba recreation Ground as the alternative for hosting league matches.
Mutesa II Stadium Manager Kyomuhendo Flavia admitted that a lot has been done to reach on the level the ground is right now and promised that extra work will be done to maintain the pitch. She was also part of the concluded Groundsmen workshop at Mandela National Stadium.
‘We have done our best to reach this level and we are proud to be approved for hosting league games again. We shall work hard to maintain pitch standards.’ Said Kyomuhendo.
Kyabazinga Stadium of Jinja, Kakindu Stadium, Kakyeka Stadium, and Green Light Stadium all had the same challenge of poor pitches especially during wet seasons however Kakindu stadium is in process of fulfilling the requirements for hosting League matches with fully green grass on the pitch.

Uganda takes on Tanzania in the second round of the FIFA U17 Women World Cup 2020 Qualifiers with the winner advancing to the 3rd and final qualifying round.
The team that has been in camp for a week now intensively preparing for the first match of the 2 legged fixture played a practice match today afternoon comfortably winning 11-0 against Watoto Girls in a game played in Watoto village, Bbira along Mityana Road.

Team captain Juliet Nalukenge and Margaret Kunihira each got a hattrick, Zaituni Namaganda a brace whereas Fauzia Najjemba, Brenda Munyana, and Moureen Nangonzi each scored a goal in the afternoon fixture.
The first leg in Dar es Salaam will be played on March 1st, 2020 and the return leg a fortnight later in Kampala.

‘ I am pleased with the outcomes of this friendly game for a number of reasons. It has helped boost the girls’ confidence as well as helping us (the technical team) try out different playing partnerships among other things we were looking out for. We achieved our set objectives from this game.’ Ayub remarked.
‘We are facing a tougher opponent in Tanzania but I am confident we have what it takes to go past them. This practice match helped us try out different aspects of our game that we intend to employ.’ He added.
The team will have another practice match on Tuesday before flying out a few days later to Dar later.

FUFA Pitch Management and Maintenance Workshop for Groundsmen successfully ends at Mandela National Stadium – Namboole has officially ended at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Concentrating on the pitch activities by FUFA is another step taken within the area of capacity building to acquire qualified pitch Groundsmen for Stadiums in order to overcome the challenges in Club Licensing.

The closing ceremony for the workshop was honored by Chairman FUFA Competitions Committee and Exco Member Hamid Juma who also attended the workshop from the start.
In attendance was the FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and his deputy (in charge of football), Decolas Kiiza.
35 Participants took part in the 3-day workshop that was conducted by UEFA expert Philip Fifield.

The 9 days program is under the UEFA Assist Project and was aimed at educating stadium Groundsmen on how to maintain and manage pitches to overcome the challenge of poor pitch grass.
The chief Guest Hamid Juma appreciated participants for the commitment they exposed during the workshop and emphasized them to implement what they have learnt.
‘I’m pleased with the commitment of the participants during the course. I urge you to implement what you have learn from the expert. If we have good pitches, we must have good games which are key to achieving our vision of becoming number one on the continent on and off the pitch.‘ Said Juma
On the other hand, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson commended UEFA for supporting the program and confirmed that FUFA will pick 2 participants to travel abroad to share and acquire more knowledge on Pitch management and Maintenance.

‘As FUFA we are very much honored to have the first-ever training for Groundsmen and we appreciate UEFA for supporting the program through the UEFA Asssist project. It’s a step to overcome the challenge of poor pitches. We shall get quarterly reports from participants annually to follow-up on what they have worked on. I advise participants not to sit back but at least do volunteer work to practice what they have learnt however FUFA has a plan to send at least two Groundsmen abroad to gain more knowledge on pitch management and maintenance.’ Said Edgar Watson.
During the course, Groundsmen were taught how to test and treat soils for pitches, how to maintain good and green grass, how and when to use the equipment for maintaining pitches, when and how to irrigate the pitch, among others.

The Program started on Saturday 15th February with testing and examining soils and grass for 17 stadiums pitches in Arua, Jinja, Kampala, Masaka, and Mbarara.

UEFA Pitch Management and Maintenance Workshop officially got underway at Mandela National Stadium on Thursday.
The official opening was graced by FUFA Executive Member Rogers Mulindwa together with the Chairman FUFA Competitions Committee and Exco Member Hamid Juma.
The 3-day workshop is aimed at facilitating Stadium Groundsmen on the areas of pitch management and maintenance.
UEFA Pitch Management and Maintenance Workshop at Namboole
UEFA expert Philip Fifield is in Charge of the workshop that is attended by 35 participants from different parts of the country.
FUFA came up with such initiative with the support of UEFA through the UEFA Assist Project formally to educate Groundsmen on how to manage and maintain pitches in order to overcome the challenges of maintaining green and good grass on pitches as required by the FUFA club licensing committee.

In his remarks, Rogers Mulindwa commended UEFA for supporting the program and stated that the workshop will overcome the pitch problems we face currently.

‘As we work to become number one in Africa, we must have good pitches for our players to play and enjoy their game. The problem of poor pitches is currently affecting our game however we thank UEFA for the support and hopefully the workshop will change the appearance of our pitches.’ Said Mulindwa
FUFA Club Licensing Manager Ivan Kintu Bayige confirmed the beginning of the workshop with much confidence that the Groundsmen will receive the basic knowledge for maintaining and managing pitches.

We have been challenged with inconsistencies in having good pitches that can pass required Club Licensing guidelines. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has terminated the case filed by Proline Football Club against FUFA.
The CAS Appeals Arbitration Division terminated the case after Proline FC failed to provide any proof of payments as advance costs to hear the case.
The decision has been communicated to both parties.
Proline FC appealed to CAS after the FUFA Competitions Disciplinary Panel applied the FUFA Competitions Rules on the Premier League team for failure to honor their home league match against Sc Villa on Saturday 7th September 2019 at StartTimes Stadium-Lugogo.
