    The stage is set for Uganda Cranes (team of StarTimes Uganda Premier League) away against Eastern region select side at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Saturday, 25th September 2021.

    Uganda Cranes traveled to Mbale on the match eve in the morning and held the last training session later in the evening.

    Head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic disclosed that this match will help the national team prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

    Micho acknowledged that he has very good memories of Eastern Uganda, a side

    ‘I have fond memories of Eastern Uganda. It is where great talents that have served this country come from like the late Edwin Hasule. The match against the Eastern region will therefore present a perfect test for the locally-based players,’ Micho stated after the last training session.

    FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers: Uganda ready to face Kenya, optimistic of good result

    All is set as Uganda U20 Women’s National Team prepares to face neighbors Kenya in the first leg of the first round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

    The team goes into Saturday’s fixture against Kenya oozing with confidence and optimistic of a good result.

    The team had it’s last training at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday afternoon and head coach, Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi indicated all set for tomorrow’s showdown.

    “We have had our final touches and surely very ready for tomorrow’s game and I want to assure every supporter that the team is committed to perform well,” the coach said.

    Kiyingi insists it is important to pick a positive result away because that brings confidence ahead of the return leg.

    “The away game is always important in such contests and if you get a good result that can be a good stepping stone into the return leg.” He added.

    Team captain, Fauzia Najjemba also shares similar belief, indicating the players are in perfect shape to earn the desired result.

    “We have had our last training and very set for the game tomorrow. We hope to give our very best so that we start the campaign on a positive note.” Najjemba indicated.

    The second leg will be played on 8th October in Kampala with the winner of aggregate advancing to the next stage.

    At the next phase (second round), the winner between Uganda and Kenya will face either South Africa or Mozambique.

    FUFA hands over Sports Equipment to Upper Prison Luzira

    FUFA has handed over sports equipment to Uganda Prisons Service to be used during football tournaments organised in the Luzira Upper Prison.

    As a way of communicating to communities through football and in line with its Corporate Social responsibility, FUFA extended another hand of support to the inmates at Luzira.

    The brief function was held at FUFA House, Mengo. It was attended by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, Executive Member Issa Magoola, Prison top brass led by Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP), Moses Sentalo, David Okiring Director of Sports Prisons Head Quarters and ASP Herbert Kaheeru In-Charge of Sports Upper Prison.

    The equipment will be used during the FUFA Cup of Hope Football Tournament Final to be played between KCCA FC and Express FC (all teams in Upper Prison dropped the European club teams for local sides). The date for the final will be communicated by the authorities.

    Our association with the Uganda Prisons excites us a lot as we get the chance to work with people inmates at Luzira Upper prisons. It is one of our activities on the FUFA Annual calendar.   It is an annual engagement with people who happen to be our friends, relatives, sisters, brothers both in service and inmates. We understand it is a process for those serving their sentences in Luzira. We have managed to take football educational courses so that once they are out, they can find a way of being welcomed to football.

    We pride in the FUFA Cup of Hope as one of our activities. Our association with you is strategic, out of humanity and social responsibility. The best we can do is give hope to the people in Luzira.  We shall engage clubs to get connected with the local teams in Luzira Prisons so that they can have their former players be part of the football tournament or support them differently’

    BUL FC head coach Alex Musongola Isabirye is confident that his side will emerge victors in Sunday’s Stanbic Uganda Cup Final against Vipers SC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

    BUL FC booked their first ever Stanbic Uganda Cup final following a 1-0 win over Express FC on Thursday while Vipers were 2-0 winners after dispatching Police FC at the semifinal stage.

    At the prematch press conference held at FUFA house on Friday morning, Isabirye hailed his battle hardened eleven troops (players) who managed to overcome Express FC, thanks to the game’s solitary strike by Owen Mukisa.

    ‘I am happy my team managed to win yesterday with only eleven players. I thank my players, the club management and fans for the support. I am happy that we managed to reach our first Stanbic Uganda Cup final. I have confidence in my players that we shall win the trophy’ said a beaming Isabirye.

    Isabirye added;

     ‘We all know finals are won not played, so we are going to win the game on Sunday. My opponent has had enough time to rest and even monitor our team play but that will not worry me at all.’

    BUL FC will be boosted by the return of Richard Wandyaka and Simon Peter Oketch who missed the semifinal duel against Express FC due to suspension.

    Captain Walter Ochola and Hamis Tibita will also be available for selection after recovering from their respective injuries.

    2016 competition winners Vipers SC will be playing their fifth Stanbic Uganda Cup final.

    Resumption of Covid-19 Vaccination programme for the football family

    FUFA is committed to working with all good willed groups to save the lives of its stakeholders against the COVID-19 pandemic.

    In this spirit, the FUFA COVID-19 Management Committee will conduct another round of vaccination in support of Government’s programmes through the Ministry of Health (MoH) for all Members and officials of FUFA to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

    The vaccination exercise will be held at FUFA House, Mengo starting Monday 27th September 2021 to Friday 1st October 2021 from 9:00am – 1:00 pm on each day.

    The vaccination exercise is for those taking the first dose and second dose.

    The latest programme of vaccination is for all members of the FUFA Executive, Judicial Bodies, Delegates, Secretariat, players of Clubs at all levels for both Men and Women Leagues.

    As earlier communicated (Circular No. 1132) starting, Tuesday 1st June 2021, the Covid-19 vaccination card became a mandatory requirement for participation in any FUFA organised and/or authorised activity or event including but not limited to:

    1. Player registration and licensing for any Competition
    2. Club registration and licensing
    3. Letter of recommendation and secondment
    4. Courses participation
    5. Access to football matches depending on clearance by Government in future.

    Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic has named the final 23 man team slated to play the Eastern region select at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Stadium.

    The team had a single training session in Kampala on Thursday afternoon and will conduct the final training on Friday at the Mbale Municipal Stadium.

    Three players; Ashraf Mugume, Sadat Happy Anaku and Rogers Mato were added to the earlier summoned team.

    Meanwhile, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, Vianey Ssekajugo, Cromwell Rwothomio, Kenneth Semakula and Steven Mukwala all who had been called up earlier did not make the traveling list, for different reasons.

    The team departs for Mbale on Friday morning.

    A previous Uganda Cranes’ regional tour to Kitara region at Buhinga play ground in Fort Portal. Due to COVID-19 restrictions fans will not access the Mbale Municipal Stadium but will duly be served with live proceedings via 102.1 FUFA f.m, UBC Television and across all the official social media platforms

    The Eastern region tour kick-starts the preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022 double header against Rwanda in October 2021.

    Rwanda hosts the first leg on 6th October 2021 in Kigali before the return leg at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende four days later.

    Uganda Cranes main sponsors Airtel and Nile Breweries Limited jointly fund the regional tours, also meant to take the national team brand closer to the populous in their respective localities.

    Uganda U20 Women’s National Team arrive safely in Kenya, conduct first training session

    The Uganda U20 Women’s National Team arrived safely in Nairobi, ahead of the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier match against Kenya slated for Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium.

    The team comprised of 20 players departed Entebbe International Airport on Thursday morning (6AM) and touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, 45 minutes later.

    Upon arrival, the team was welcomed by FUFA National Team s’ Officer, Paul Mukatabala and later checked in at Hillpark Hotel.

    The team later had a one-hour training session at Utali College.

    “We travelled safely and all the girls are okay. We had our first training session today which was light. All the players are in perfect shape and ready for the game on Saturday.” He said.

    BUL Football Club will play Vipers in the final of the 2021 Stanbic Uganda Cup at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

    This follows a hard fought 1-0 win against Express at the same venue in the second semi-final of the competition played on Thursday, 23rd September.

    FUFA Juniors League product Owen Mukisa, 18, was the hero of the game with a 26th minute well taken goal.

    Mukisa is a graduate from the BUL Junior Team and not only captained the team to victory, but also, scored the all important goal.

    BUL now plays Vipers during the final on Sunday, 26th September 2021.

    The final, like the rest of the earlier matches will be relied live on 102.1 FUFA f.m and televised live on UBC Television.

    Uganda U20 Women’s National Team Head Coach, Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has named the final squad of 20 players that will travel to Nairobi, Kenya ahead of the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.


    The first leg is slated for Saturday, 25th September in Kenya’s capital Nairobi.


    The squad named comprises of two goalkeepers, six defenders, seven midfielders and five forwards.


    Kiyinigi indicates the squad is named has the ability to register a good result ahead of the return leg in Kampala two weeks later.


    “I think these are the best players we have selected to go and do the job. I have the belief that the squad selected is competent to help us secure the result we want.” He said.


    The team will depart Entebbe International Airport on Thursday Morning (6AM).

    The nomination process for the 2021 Airtel-FUFA Male and Female footballer of the year is now open. The initial nomination process that started on 7th September and ends on 2nd October 2021 involves only the Head coaches and team captains of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and FUFA Women Super League teams.

    A head coach and captain are required to select separately their top five (5) choices of players the 2021 Airtel-FUFA Male and Female Footballer of the year.  

    ‘The 24th FUFA Executive Committee that met on 30th April 2021 approved the Airtel FUFA Awards to be organised on 4th December this year since there have been a good number of competitions played in the season’ noted Rogers Byamukama FUFA Chairman Marketing and Communications Committee.  

    The full details of the event and other categories to be considered will be communicated on 13th October 2021 when the Awards are launched officially.

    Crested Cranes provisional squad preparing for COSAFA Women’s Championship has been trimmed to 26 players from the initial 32.

    The camp at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru now has 24 players with Yudaya Nakayenze and Shiraz Natasha yet to join the team.

    The aforementioned duo will join the rest of the team in South Africa before the start of the tournament.

    The team is expected to be trimmed further to a final list of 20 players.

    Striker Nalukenge beefs up U20 Women’s National Team camp ahead of Kenya encounter

    Uganda U20 Women’s National Team camp was on Tuesday evening boosted with the arrival of striker Juliet Nalukenge.

    The sharp shooter who now plies her trade with Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus arrived in the country in the morning and later joined the team at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

    The player was delighted to team up with her peers and indicated that the target is to make sure Uganda performs well

    “I’m extremely happy to be back home and return to the National Team. The mood I found in camp was jovial and everyone welcomed me well. I believe the attitude and belief I found here will be enough to see us go past Kenya,” she said.

    “I believe my presence brings confidence in camp an everyone is now focused towards achieving our target which is playing at the World Cup.” Added Nalukenge.

    Coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi was also happy to have Nalukenge join the camp and hopes that her presence will be of positive impact.

    Uganda will face Kenya this Satu in the first leg of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers with the return leg slated for 8th October in Kampala.

    Vipers Sports Club progressed to the final of the 2021 Stanbic Uganda Cup, that will be played on Sunday, 26th September at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

    This followed a 2-0 victory in the opening semi-final against Police at the same venue, behind closed doors.

    A goal in each half forward Ceaser Manzoki gave the 2016 Stanbic Uganda Cup winners the deserved win.

    Manzoki scored the opener after 20 minutes, capitalizing on a mistake by defender Hassan Muhamood.

    He scored the second after 52 minutes, thanks to a well laid pass by midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga.

    Police had some lively moment with the introduction Brian Muruli Mayanja in the final stanza.

    Midfielder and captain Tonny Mawejje had an effort kiss the wood-work as they pressed forward for a goal that never came.

    Vipers’ substitute Dan Sserunkuma also had a chance missed when he had a shot off the cross bar.

    Vipers will now wait for Thursday’s second semi-final between Express and Jinja based BUL to know their opponent in the final.

    This will be Vipers’ fifth final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

    The final shall be played on Sunday, 26th September 2021 at the FUFA Technical center, Njeru.

    FUFA to organise women football club licensing workshop

    FUFA is set to organise Women football Club Licensing workshop aimed at proper induction of women’s football stakeholders in the top two tier Leagues (FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women  Elite League) in Uganda.

    The ground breaking project funded by FIFA was approved by FIFA through its Women Development Programmes following a request by FUFA to development women Football in Uganda. Each Club will be represented by two people.  

    The Project is built on the specific goals;  

    a) advance the professionalisation of the women’s game

    b) accelerate the development of the game at all levels

    c) build on existing senior league structures to strengthen participating clubs

    d) to help FUFA achieve its strategic plans for this case the FUFA Women Football strategy (Take Flight)

    The Project’s specific goals (above) as well as the FUFA Women Football strategy are all in line with two pillars of the FUFA Hattrick goals (The Future) and women football development thus;

    i.                 Create a professional football industry

    ii.                Achieve world class sporting excellence

    William Kizito Luwagga made his first start for his new club Hapoel Nof HaGalil as they beat Ashdod FC 2-0 in the Israeli Premier League.

    Luwagga was withdrawn in the 55th minute for Kevaughn Frater while on the other hand Fahad Bayo and Timothy Awany played full-time for Ashdod.

    Striker Juliet Nalukenge scored twice as Apollon Ladies beat Karmiotissa Women 5-1 in a friendly game.

    Defender Ronald Mukiibi got off the bench and later got withdrawn as his side Ostersunds FK won 3-1 against Elfsborg in the Swedish topflight league on Sunday.

    Mukiibi was introduced for Samuel Mensah who was injured in the 58th minute before he was also withdrawn in the 76th minute for Marco Weymans.

    His teammate Isaac Sewankambo played full-time and made an assist for the second goal in the 39th minute before he was booked for time wasting in the 83rd minute.

    Striker Deogracious Ojok scored on his debut as Tusker beat Djibouti’s Arta Solar7 3-0 in Nairobi.

    The former BUL FC striker scored in 76th minute.

    Khalid Aucho was not part of the Young Africans team that lost 1-0 to Rivers United in Nigeria and got knocked out having lost the first leg with the same scoreline.

    Goalkeeper Ali Kimera and forward Nicholas Kagaba played for Mogadishu City Club and lost 2-1 to APR FC in Kigali. Their teammate Stephen Ategeka was on the bench.

    Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya and Nicholas Wadada played full-time for Azam FC and won 1-0 against Somalia’s Horseed FC in Dar es Salaam.

    Shafik Batambuze played full-time while Hashim Sempala didn’t feature as their Zambian side Kabwe Warriors lost 2-1 to Madagascar’s CFFA FC and got knocked out.

    Goalkeeper Cleo Ssetuba and striker Mathew Odong Tayo played for Tanzania’s Biashara United and won 2-0 against Djibouti side Dikhil FC.

    Midfielder Lawrence Ndugga was an unused substitute for Botswana side Orapa United who won 5-3 on penalties against Gabon’s AS Mangasport after another goal-less draw.

    Goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi was in goal and kept a clean sheet as Zambia’s Red Arrows played out a goalless draw with Young Buffaloes of Eswatini. Mugabi and teammates progressed to the next round with a 2-1 aggregate.

    Dennis Onyango was in goal and kept his third straight clean sheet as Mamelodi Sundowns beat TS Galaxy 3-0 in the DStv Premiership.

    Moses Waiswa played 73 minutes in Supersport United’s 3-0 win over Moroka Swallows. He was replaced by Kudakwashe Mahachi.

    Striker Edward Kizza was an unused substitute as his New England Revolution drew 1-1 with Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer.

    Mustafa Kizza was also an unused substitute as CF Montreal won 2-0 against Chicago Fire on Sunday night.

    Mike Azira came off the bench as his New Mexico United team won 2-1 against Real Monarchs SLC in the second tier of USL Championship.

    Midfielder Moses Opondo came off the bench in the 77th as his club OB Odense lost 2-0 to AaB Alborg in the Danish Superligaen.

    Midfielder Robert Kakeeto played 29 minutes for Skive IK who lost 4-1 to AB Copenhagen in the Danish third tier league.

    Kakeeto, who is on loan from AaB Alborg, got booked in the 14th minute before he was substituted off for Nicolas Dohn in the 29th minute.
